Candlemas
We will be celebrating Candlemas during Noon Eucharist on Wednesday, February 1st at 12pm. Candlemas is a celebration of The Feast of the Presentation of Jesus Christ. During this time, all of the candles of our church will be blessed along with any candles you would like to bring from home for blessing! Throughout the remainder of the year, these candles serve as a symbol of the light that Jesus Christ brought with him to the world at birth.

Food Pantry News
It’s understandable that budgets are tight these days for many. Just buying the groceries your own family needs isn’t cheap.
Consider the challenges for those for whom money is even tighter, people not able to work due to a disability, illness, age, or other issues.
The pantry news shared a few weeks ago the appreciation expressed by a pantry client for whom the choice was often between buying food or buying medicine. The items she was able to get from the pantry helped her greatly.
A recent check of prices posted on Super 1 Foods website showed store-brand canned peas, corn, and other vegetables at $1 each. You could buy Chicken of the Sea Chunk Light Tuna ((5 oz) for $1.38 or a one-pound bag of store-brand long grain rice was $1.18. These are all items from the pantry’s needs list.
This isn’t to promote shopping at Super 1 over other stores in the area, but simply an effort to show that just $3 plus tax would buy three cans of vegetables. Five cans of tuna would run you $6.90 plus tax. Eight bags of rice would run $9.44 plus tax.
We’re asking St. Barnabas families to bring needs list items to church weekly for the pantry to distribute. Hopefully, $3, $5, or $10 a week added to your regular weekly shopping is doable. For those for whom it’s not, maybe $3, $5, or $10 every other week might be – or $2, or whatever you can.
That’s the real ask, just to do what you can but to try to do it regularly as the outflow of items is constant making the need to replenish the pantry's shelves the same. Check the needs list and add a few items for the pantry to your weekly shopping. Donations of items are preferred, but if that doesn’t work for you, please consider putting a check payable to “the pantry” in the collection.

Summer 2023 Mission Trip
The time has finally come for us to resume summer mission trips, and WE CAN'T WAIT! EYC at St. B has a unique opportunity this summer to attend a mission experience organized by Youth Mission Co., an organization with which St. Barnabas has partnered in the past for successful experiences in Memphis, TN and Asheville, NC. This summer we will head to Dallas, TX from June 18-23 for our mission experience! Located in downtown Dallas, DYM gives young people an opportunity to understand the situations of those who are living on the margins in a large urban center. Groups will discuss themes of food insecurity, poverty, homelessness, and the changing dynamics of gentrification in this major city in the heart of Texas.
Please complete the interest form linked below to reserve a spot for your child(ren) for our trip! This is not a firm commitment, this is just letting us know who is interested in coming. Both middle and high school will be traveling together, however the groups will be separated during travel and for daily activities throughout the trip.
The total cost per person is $550, which includes the cost of travel (we are driving), food, and lodging. We hope that St. Barnabas is able to fund the majority of that cost through reserve funds and our spring fundraiser (info below). The sooner we have final numbers of those interested, the sooner we can make travel arrangements and figure out in what capacity St. B will be able to fund the trip and what financial responsibility families might have.
PLEASE DO NOT LET THE PRICE TAG DISCOURAGE YOU FROM FILLING OUT THE FORM! We do our best to find the means to bring EYC members on trips if they desire to come. If your kid wants to join us but you have concerns about a financial commitment, fill out the form and we will work with you!

Episcopal Youth Event *deadline approaching
The next Episcopal Youth Event (EYE23) will be held from July 4-8, 2023 on the campus of the University of Maryland in College Park, MD, which sits approximately four miles from the northeast border of Washington, D.C. EYE23 participants must have turned at least 15 and be no older than 19 by July 4, 2023. Participants should be enrolled in 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade during the 2022–2023 school year. For full info about participation, view the EYE23 Application Form to the left.
Every three years, the Episcopal Church convenes an international youth event so “that the energy of the youth of the Episcopal Church can continue to be utilized in active ministry as members of the Body of Christ.” Since the first EYE in 1982, this popular event has welcomed thousands of young people from across the Episcopal Church for celebration, worship, learning, and leadership training.

The new ministry of a Rector is celebrated in the context of a eucharist. The bishop is normally the chief celebrant. During the service, a Letter of Institution is read by the bishop after the wardens state that the new minister is well qualified, and that they have been prayerfully and lawfully selected.
Join Bishop Owensby and the congregations below in celebrating the upcoming installment of these new Rectors in our Diocese!
