Katherine Marie Loos

Nov. 24, 1957 - May 6, 2023

Dear St. Barnabas Family,

It is with deep sadness that we write to inform members and friends of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church of the death of Ms. Katherine Marie Loos, beloved mother of Mary Katherine and Grace Helen, daughter of John and Helen, and friend to so many. Kate was a long-time parishioner of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church who will be dearly missed. She departed this life on Saturday, May 6, 2023, in her home.

We ask that you keep Katherine's family, especially her daughters, in your prayers. There will be a memorial ceremony at University Presbyterian Church in Baton Rouge on Thursday, May 18th, 1pm; with visitation in the Parks Wilson Room at noon. There will also be a celebration of life at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church on June 4th at noon.

May her soul, and the souls of all the departed, through God's immeasurable love and mercy, rest with the angels in peace and rise with the saints in glory!

In Christ's love,

Fr. Michael Bordelon

Welcoming Rev. Benjamin to Town

Rev. Deacon Benjamin, our new curate and soon-to-be priest, and his partner Jacob will be arriving in town this Thursday. Some of our LGBTQIA+ Folks & Friends will be awaiting his arrival to greet them warmly and assist with unloading their moving truck. If anyone is available (anytime between 3-5pm), your help would be greatly appreciated. They are estimating an arrival time of 2:30-3pm on Thursday. Contact Mark Evans at 256-679-2700 for details, if you are interested in participating.

Adult Christian Formation

This Sunday's Adult Christian Formation (5/21) will be brought to you by representatives from two of our outreach ministries, Beacon Community Connections and The Inn. We invite you to join us for a deeper look into, and discussion of, poverty and its associated struggles here in Acadiana. We hope to answer questions and have real conversations about the people who are served by some of St. Barnabas’ ministries. Join Donna, Janet and Jennifer this Sun. at 9:15am in Ramsay Hall.

Police Memorial Service

Police Memorial honors fallen Officers from the agencies in the Acadiana region. This Thursday (5/18) at 6:00pm, there will be a short ceremony in the Sanctuary followed by a reception to honor those Officers and their ultimate sacrifice. The public is encouraged to attend. Reception with refreshments will be held in Ramsay Hall following the ceremony.

Confirmation, Reception, Reaffirmation, and Holy Baptism at St. Barnabas

On Sunday, May 28, Bishop Jake Owensby will join us for his annual visitation. During his visit, he will administer the sacraments of Holy Baptism and Confirmation, along with Reception and Reaffirmation.

Fr. Michael Bordelon has been leading a class each Tuesday in Ramsay Hall in preparation to receive these sacraments. Tonight's class will focus on Sacramental Church. While this class is required for those seeking the sacrament of Confirmation, Reception, or Reaffirmation, it is also open to everyone ages 16+ who want to learn more about their faith and the Episcopal Church!

If you have any questions, please email Fr. Michael at fathermichael@saintbarnabas.us.

St. B Scholarship Application
Camp Hartner Scholarship Application

Getting Kids to Camp

This month, funds collected through the brown envelopes will be used for Camp Hardtner Scholarships. We believe that funding should never stand between a child and the camp experience, and your donations will help to ensure just that.

Brown envelopes are found in each pew and can be placed in the offertory plate or turned into church offices.

If you'd like to register a child for camp, you can do so here. Scholarships are available through both St. Barnabas and Camp Hardtner; applications for these can be found using the buttons to the left.

Men's Group

Gentlemen, clear your schedule next Tuesday evening because Men'sGroup will be meeting at St. B. Join them for fellowship and a great meal. Bring something to throw on the grill (sides and beverages will be provided) and get ready for a good time. Contact Rob Stevenson or Paul Morton for more information.
