A Moment of Gratitude

The Pastoral Care Committee announced on 12/7 that Imelda Schaefer is stepping down from the committee after 25 years of dedicated care and service. Imelda has served on the Pastoral Care Committee since its inception and has provided countless visits, notes, phone calls, Eucharistic Visits, and prayers with members through those years. Her steady and thoughtful presence has been an incredible blessing and we are so grateful to her for all she has provided.

Barbara Barhydt will remain a co-chair of the committee and Susie Peixotto (see Susie's profile here) will join her as a fellow co-chair. Susie has been a member of the PCC for five years and has been mentored by the co-chairs for the past several months. The other members of the committee are John Perkins, Pam Hobson, Susannah White, Paule French, and Rev. Amanda.

You can reach the Pastoral Care Committee by emailing pastoralcare@stbartsyarmouth.org.

Friendship House

Birthday Cakes, Dunkin Donuts Cards,

and Sharing a Meal

Friendship House is a home for men in recovery from substance use disorder who have little or no income and need a safe place to live. It strives to create a safe, family atmosphere for the 15 men living there to enable their healing spiritually, emotionally and physically. St. Bart's has been supporting Friendship House for over 25 years, primarily by providing a meal once a month along with financial support.

Herb Blake, the Executive Director since 2012, visited with us last spring and his talk inspired Peter Small to suggest a birthday celebration as a way to deepen our relationship with Friendship House. We have agreed to provide a cake once a quarter to celebrate birthdays during that quarter. To enhance our relationship further, a couple of members of St. Bart's will be invited to share the cake as well as a meal with the residents once a quarter. Peter has generously offered to provide cakes for the first year.

You can help support this effort in a few ways.

  1. We'd like to provide a birthday card with a $10 Dunkin Donuts gift card to each of the men having a birthday during the quarter. We welcome donations of Dunkin Donuts gift cards ($10). Many thanks to those that have contributed.
  2. Peter has offered to provide cakes for the first year, but we will be looking for others to provide a cake in the future (January, April, July, October).
  3. Most importantly, we would love members to share a meal with the residents to develop relationships. We'd like to schedule meals in January, April, July and October of next year as well. Pam and Peter enjoyed a meal along with cake/ice cream and conversation with Herb and the residents in October. Birthday cards and Dunkin Donuts gift cards were distributed to the 5 men who had birthdays in October, November and December. There were many thank yous and "God Bless" from the men.

Please contact Pam Hobson if you are interested in supporting this Outreach Ministry.

Yoga Offering - Quiet Amid the Bustle

2 sessions left: Dec 22 & 29!

Yoga is once again being offered on Monday mornings in December. We have two sessions left. Our focus will be to reflect, refresh, and reset, taking time for ourselves outside of the busy holiday time.

Classes are ‘drop-in;’ held from 9:30 - 10:45 am, with a $12/class fee. Half of the proceeds will be donated back to St. Bart’s. Each class will start with a time to center, followed by warm up stretches and breathing, with poses taught to help strengthen and stretch our muscles. Class will end with shavasana, a time to relax and rejuvenate. No experience is necessary!

Wear comfortable clothes, and bring: yoga mat, blocks and strap (if you have them), water, and a blanket.

Joyce Cassidy is a 200-hour Kripalu-trained Yoga instructor, and offered this class last year at St. Bart’s. Please see the sign-up sheet posted in the entryway if interested; a minimum of 4 attendees will ensure the classes are held. Contact Joyce for information - 207-272-0262 or email Joyce.
