Wednesday Evening Advent Services
December 3, 10, & 17 at 5:30 pm
Please join us on Wednesday evenings during Advent where we will gather for a quiet, reflective eucharist in the Celtic tradition.
With simple songs and candlelight, this service is designed to be an invitation to slow down during this busy time of year and to prepare our hearts to notice God in all the ways they dwell in and around us.
Please consider staying after the service for our Fellowship Series on Music in the Church.

Preparation for the Fair Next Week
Please note that the entire building will be in use next week as everyone gathers to prepare for the fair on Saturday, Dec 6.

Alarm System to be Activated Dec. 8
If you ever enter the church when no one is there, please be sure to get trained on the new alarm system, which will be in use starting Monday, Dec. 8. You will learn the simple steps to "disarm" the system when you enter the building, and then "arm" the system when you leave. This procedure is needed only if you are the first to enter the building any day, or last to leave.
Joe Michaud is doing training after services on Sundays, or contact him by email HERE to arrange a time.

From Psalms and Hymns to Christmas Carols:
An Advent Fellowship Series on Music in the Church
When: December 3, 10, and 17 following the 5:30 pm Wednesday Advent Service
Where: In the sanctuary (bring a brown bag if you’d like)
Have you ever wondered why we sing in church? Or why you’re handed a hymnal on your way into the sanctuary? Of all the ways humans might behave toward God, why music?
Or maybe you want to know what any of this has to do with Greek mathematicians, a fourth-century church under siege, St. Augustine weeping graveside, a Benedictine monk’s right hand, the ethics of poetry, or the morality of post-Reformation Europe.
Or perhaps you would value reflecting on how music resonates in your experience of worship in the St. Bart’s sanctuary and elsewhere in your spiritual life.
Please feel warmly invited to join our music director, Dr. Christina Scott Edelen, and St. Bart’s member, Dr. Maria Guarino, as they lead an Advent conversation series on music in the church. Bring a brown bag dinner to the 5:30 pm Wednesday Advent Service and stay afterward—from about 6:00-7:00 pm—to learn some of the fascinating history of music in the Church, and to reflect on what it has to say to us in our Advent journeys today. We’ll share a meal, join in conversation, and do a little singing to bring fellowship, joy, and a sense of deepening reflection to the holiday season.

CHRISTMAS FAIR:
Non-Profit Beneficiaries
You are likely aware that St. Bartholomew’s annual operating budget is primarily funded by donations from all of us, our pledges and plate offerings. The Christmas Fair is the only “fundraiser” that also contributes to the annual operating budget, as proceeds from both the lobster dinner event and the Art Festival are designated for important work outside our walls.
This year the Vestry has agreed that any net proceeds exceeding the $16,000 needed to meet our operating expenses for 2025 will be donated to Friendship House, St. Elizabeth’s Essentials
Pantry, and the Yarmouth Food Pantry. Parishioners are active volunteers at these three very
important organizations and we’re confident that, with your help, the Christmas Fair can provide
each with a holiday donation this year.
How can you help? If you haven’t already, find a table where you can help increase inventory! Do you bake, make good soup or freezable comfort food, handcraft or knit? Do you have belts, handbags, scarves or books in good condition that you do not, or rarely, wear or will not read again? How about Christmas items: ornaments, tableware, garland and the like? Jewelry, costume or otherwise, and items for the silent auction?
This fair has exceeded $20,000 in the past and with your help we can do it again, so please, dig
in, roll up your sleeves, and join our parish family as we make the fair a rousing success!
Please direct any questions you may have to:

Friendship House
Birthday Cakes, Dunkin Donuts Cards,
and Sharing a Meal
Friendship House is a home for men in recovery from substance use disorder who have little or no income and need a safe place to live. It strives to create a safe, family atmosphere for the 15 men living there to enable their healing spiritually, emotionally and physically. St. Bart's has been supporting Friendship House for over 25 years, primarily by providing a meal once a month along with financial support. Herb Blake, the Executive Director since 2012, visited with us last spring and his talk inspired Peter Small to suggest a birthday celebration as a way to deepen our relationship with Friendship House. We have agreed to provide a cake once a quarter to celebrate birthdays during that quarter. To enhance our relationship further, a couple of members of St. Bart's will be invited to share the cake as well as a meal with the residents once a quarter. Peter has generously offered to provide cakes for the first year. He and Pam Hobson will share a meal and the first birthday cake with Friendship House on October 8th. You can help support this effort in a few ways.
-
We'd like to provide a birthday card with a $10 Dunkin Donuts gift card to each of the men having a birthday during the quarter (5 this first quarter). We welcome donations of Dunkin Donuts gift cards ($10). Many thanks to those that have contributed. Ten Dunkin Donuts gift cards have been purchased.
-
Peter has offered to provide cakes for the first year, but we will be looking for others to provide a cake in the future (January, April, July, October).
-
Most importantly, we would love members to share a meal with the residents to develop relationships. Pam and Peter will do this October 8th, but we'd like to schedule meals in January, April, July and October of next year as well. Pam and Peter enjoyed a meal along with cake/ice cream and conversation with Herb and the residents. Birthday cards and Dunkin Donuts gift cards were distributed to the 5 men who had birthdays in October, November and December. There were many thank yous and "God Bless" from the men.
Please contact Pam Hobson if you are interested in supporting this Outreach Ministry.

Yoga Offering - Quiet Amid the Bustle
Yoga will again be offered for four weeks on Monday mornings in December, beginning on the 8th. Our focus will be to reflect, refresh, and reset, taking time for ourselves outside of the busy holiday time.
Classes will be ‘drop-in;’ held from 9:30 - 10:45 am, with a $12/class fee. Half of the proceeds will be donated back to St. Bart’s. Each class will start with a time to center, followed by warm up stretches and breathing, with poses taught to help strengthen and stretch our muscles. Class will end with shavasana, a time to relax and rejuvenate. No experience is necessary!
Wear comfortable clothes, and bring: yoga mat, blocks and strap (if you have them), water, and a blanket.
Joyce Cassidy is a 200-hour Kripalu-trained Yoga instructor, and offered this class last year at St. Bart’s. Please see the sign-up sheet posted in the entryway if interested; a minimum of 4 attendees will ensure the classes are held. Contact Joyce for information - 207-272-0262 or email at Joyce.

If you are planning on donating anything to the Crafts table, please bring it to church no later than Sunday, November 30th. If that is not possible, please reach out to Harriet Davis and let her know what you’ll be contributing and when you’ll be able to bring it to church. Many thanks.
