Sunday Formation

for All Ages

Episcopal 101:

A class for newcomers and long-timers

(and everyone in between)

This Sunday at 11:30 (after worship) we will continue to explore what it means to be a Christian of the Episcopal variety.

This week's topic:

How we worship

how our worship shapes and forms our faith

All are welcome for fun and formation - please join us.

Location will be announced on Sunday morning.

Participation in this class will prepare anyone to be confirmed or received into the Episcopal Church, but it a class designed for any who wish to attend.

Children's formation for Pre-K through 5th grade 

will be meeting at 11:30 am in room M104

at the end of the Mission Wing. 

Younger children (birth through 3 years old)

are welcome with an adult.

We will be using Godly Play and 

Illustrated Ministry's MiniRevolution curriculums.

We are eager to hear from adults who could share teaching and learning with these young people. If you feel called to the ministry of Children's or Youth Formation, please contact Molly or Beth.

Adios Alyssa

As many of you know, Alyssa Sali (our Director of Children and Family Ministries for the past four years) began her seminary formation this past Fall toward ordination to the priesthood. Because I was going to be away on sabbatical mid-year and because of the other pastoral transitions with the departures of Fabio and Nora and the arrival of Mimi, I asked Alyssa if she would remain in her staff role through the end of the 2022 calendar year to provide continuity and she graciously agreed. The time has now come for us to say “Adios Alyssa” - which literally means that we hand her “to God” – a Dios.

We will celebrate Alyssa’s ministry with us with a reception after worship on Sunday, February 12. Alyssa will back with us on that Sunday to preach as well. We will also offer thanks for Alyssa’s ministry with us by collecting a “purse” or “love offering” in thanksgiving for Alyssa and the gifts that she has shared with us through her ministry here. If you would like to contribute, you can designate a gift (cash or check) as “Alyssa’s Purse” or you can make a gift through Realm - choosing “Alyssa’s Purse” from the list there.

You may be wondering? - Who will shepherd Children and Family Ministries now? 

I believe that Senior Warden Molly Graves and I have discerned the ideal candidate to take on the role of Interim Director of Children and Family Ministries…and that person is Molly Graves. Molly will take on this work as she finishes her term on the Vestry and her role as Senior Warden over the next few weeks. Then, this summer, our plan is to search for a new Director of Children and Family Ministries. Molly will, of course, share this work with the other faithful folks who already serve on the Children and Family Ministry Team. Thank you all!

Donate children's clothing

to help family affected by fire

Please join in helping out two families who lost almost everything they owned in an apartment fire. These families are very close family members of a St. Bede’s parishioner. There are seven children in the two families – five girls and two boys. One of the children is an infant.

There is a bag in the Commons labeled "Donation of Children's Clothing" for your donations to these families in great need or you may make a monetary donation to the Rector’s Discretionary Fund by check or through Realm designated for “Family Fire Assistance”. Thank you for helping.

BUNCO IS BACK

The Sister’s Bunco group met in person for the first time since late 2019. Thanks to Nancy Ward for hosting our wonderful annual Christmas party!  At this party each year we vote on where we will donate the funds we collect during the year. It has been a long time since we have been able to do this, so it is particularly satisfying to be able to announce that $162.00 will be donated to help fill the Baby Jesus Christmas Baskets this year.

As always, we invite all the women of St. Bede’s, and any men if interested, to join us for Bunco each month. Everyone is welcome. If you are new to St. Bede’s this is a great opportunity to meet some of your fellow parishioners.

We are changing the time of gathering since many of us do not wish to drive at night. We will now be meeting at 2:00 p.m. on the 3^rd Sunday of each month. Hopefully, this will make it easier for everyone.

Our first gathering in 2023 will be held at 2:00 p.m. on January 22 (new date) at Lois Shingler’s house. Please consider coming, even if you haven’t ever attended. Let Lois know if you can come so that we can make sure we have the right number of tables set up. ([email protected] or 404-593-9001).  Everyone brings an appetizer and pays $10.00 to play. Some of that money goes towards the prizes awarded at the end of the evening and the rest is donated to a charity at the end of the year.

Our exterior siding renovation project has been completed

and we have a beautiful new look!

As violence escalates in Ukraine, over one million people have already fled the country — and the borders are flooded with many more people desperate to leave.

Almost all of them are women and children who have had to seek safety on their own, leaving their husbands, fathers, brothers and sons behind.

As this crisis continues to evolve, we are working with Anglican agencies and our other partners to provide humanitarian assistance, and urgently ask for your help.

Your emergency gift today will support our immediate response, providing cash, blankets, hygiene supplies and other needs as this crisis unfolds.

Our faith networks are currently on the ground in the border areas of Poland, Hungary and Romania, and we will continue to coordinate with them in order to help those who have been displaced. Specifically, our partner ACT Alliance is helping families on the Hungarian border, and our Anglican partners are mobilizing both an immediate and long-term response in Poland, Romania and Hungary.
