Worship in Spanish at 1:30 pm

We will also be streaming our worship live

on

St. Bede's YouTube Channel

If you would like to preview the scripture lessons and hymns for the upcoming Sunday, you can find Sunday's bulletin uploaded to the parish website each week on Thursday afternoon. From the home page of the website, scroll down to the colorful "Worship" icon, and click on that. Then scroll to the bottom of the "Worship" page and you will see where the bulletins for Sunday have been posted under "Downloads".

New Digital Assisted Listening System

for St. Bede's Nave

Thanks to a a generous grant, we have upgraded our Nave sound system with a new digital assisted listening server. This digital server will stream the Nave audio directly to your smartphone and, from there, it can be delivered through wired headphones, Bluetooth devices, or, if you have smart phone enabled hearing aids, the audio can be streamed directly into the hearing aids. Our hope is that this system can improve speech intelligibility for any who have a difficult time hearing or understanding the spoken word in the Nave.

The FIRST STEP to use the new system is download the "ListenWIFI" app onto your smartphone by clicking on one of the links below. The app is free and does not require any type of registration or password (thank goodness!). The app will not work until you are at St. Bede's and connected to our Wi-Fi network.

The SECOND STEP is to arrive at St. Bede's and connect to the new "St. Bede's - Guest" Wi-Fi network which is an open network that requires no password (thank goodness, again!). The system will not work if you connect to the old "stbedes" password protected network.

Please let us know if you need help connecting!

Our regular Sunday Adult Formation class

We look forward to resuming in the Fall!

Room M110

Facilitators: Jim Handsfield and Raz Schreiber

Breathing Underwater Book Study

It can be said that our society shows all the signs of classic addiction. This addiction creates a society with a codependency for itself. We may all be unaware we are seeing somethings from the viewpoint of an “addictive” way of thinking.

The most well-known approach to surviving addiction is the program of 12 Step Recovery. Rohr has extracted 12 spiritual principles from those 12 Steps and offers them as a possible path of spiritual growth to change our addiction to our way of thinking, which alters the way we relate to ourselves and to our society.

Each Sunday we will look at 2 of the 12 spiritual concepts he presents in his book.

We hope you will join us.

Please reach out to Jim or Raz with any questions.

Finding Healing

for Our Divided Country

Now meeting weekly

on Monday evenings on Zoom

from 6:30 to 8 pm.

In person every Thursday morning

9 to 10 am

at Mint Coffeehouse

3926 Lawrenceville Hwy in Tucker

An RSVP to Muriel for this in-person meeting is kindly requested.

A discussion group, grounded in prayer, for those who have questions, concerns, and emotions that feel too big, and need a safe place to process with others.

We will see what participants need from this group. Perhaps it will just be a place to express what you are feeling, or maybe some will want to know what action can be taken.

And we will pray together.

Some questions to consider:

How are you doing, and what are you feeling?

Where are you in terms of processing changing public policy?

How can we live the values of our faith

in the face of conflicting public policy?

Facilitators: Muriel Diguette, Molly Graves, and Miriam Needham

Please contact Muriel Diguette at digfam@att.net

if you are interested in joining.

Art From The Heart

Gallery Opening

August 2nd

There is great news from the “Art From the Heart Gallery” committee. Our first show features artists from the Tucker Art Alliance.

Earlier this summer, a “Request For Submissions” was sent to artists who have participated in events in and around Tucker. Each person could submit up to 3 original 2D pieces. The deadline for submission was June 27th . As of this report, we have 11 artists submitting work and we expect a few more. The committee will meet and review each piece and decide which will be accepted. Once that is done, we will let the artists know that they are part of our Gallery’s inaugural show!

Mark your calendars for August 2nd. We are planning an Opening Show for that evening. More information will be forthcoming as it is available!

We need your help!

There is some old furniture and electronics at the church that needs to be taken to the dump. If you have a pickup truck or trailer, will you help the church out?

Here is your chance to be one of St. Bede’s Good Samaritans.

If you can help, contact Barbara Helms at atlhelms@comcast.net.

Thanks!

"CODA"

Popcorn Theology

Saturday, August 16

5:30 p.m.—8:45 p.m.

Following a simple meal of pizza, a salad bar, fresh fruit and homemade cookies

and popcorn (gluten free and dairy free options will be available), we’ll watch

"CODA.” Ruby Rossi, a 17-year-old senior in high school living in Gloucester,

Massachusetts, is a hard-working young woman who rises at 3 o’clock each

morning to help her father and brother on their fishing boat before going to

school. Ruby is the only hearing person in her family of 4. (CODA means, Child of

Deaf Adults). Her father, mother and older brother rely on Ruby to serve as their

translator at doctor's appointments and in negotiating the sale of the fish they

catch.

At school, Ruby signs up to be in the chorus. She has never sung with a

teacher or in a group, only at home where no one can hear her. She has no idea if

she is "any good", she just knows she loves to sing. The teacher tells her she has a

gift and encourages her singing, offering to coach her to apply to Berklee School of

Music. Ruby finds herself torn between her obligations to her family and her

blossoming gift as singer.

1 hour 40 minutes

rated PG-13

2021

Drama with lighthearted and uplifting moments

Suggested donation of $10 with checks payable to St. Bede's

The film is the winner of 3 Academy Awards: for Adapted Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor (Tony Kotsur, who plays Ruby's father) and Best Film. “CODA” Stars Emilia Jones as Ruby and Marlee Matlin as her mother.

After watching the movie, we will have a brief conversation about where we saw

and heard God in the movie, and the way in which the movie showed each of us

something about our own lives. We’ll end the evening with a brief Night Prayer.

Please email Lynnsay Buehler at lbuehler@stbedes.org to let her know you are

able to attend or write your name on the sign-up sheet on the round table in the

Commons.

School Supply Collection for

NETWorks Cooperative Ministry's

Back 2 School Store

St. Bedes is partnering with Networks Cooperative Ministry again this year to support their back to school collection of school supplies. We will be collecting supplies through July 27 in the bins in the Commons. Click the button below for a list of requested supplies. Lists of needed supplies are also available on the table in the Commons.

This is a much needed source of school supplies for families in need. Thank you, St. Bede’s, for your incredible generosity in serving our community!

The Mazury Folk Dance Ensemble holds their practices in our Parish Hall on Friday evenings. They will be leading us in a special dance on the last night of Vacation Bible School. We hope you can join us then. And they would love for any of us to join them for their First Annual Grand Pickle Ball fundraiser.

Use the discount code STBEDES for a $10 discount on your ticket!

The Outreach Committee has decided to support the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund. PCRF was established in the US in 1991 to provide free medical care to injured and ill children who lack access to care within their local health care system. They have established a pediatric cancer dept. as well as a cardiology dept in the area. In addition they have sent thousands of children abroad for free medical care. More recently they have been assisting humanitarian organizations. Charity Navigator has given them a 4* rating for the past 12 yrs indicating they have exceeded industry standards and outperforms most charities. We feel with the current crisis in Gaza and the many children in need of food, shelter, and medical care PCRF is an organization worthy of our support.

As we all watch the tragic events of violence escalate in Jerusalem and Palestine, it is so important to keep the people of the Holy Land in our prayers.

Amen.

Friend in Christ,

As violence escalates in Ukraine, over one million people have already fled the country — and the borders are flooded with many more people desperate to leave.

Almost all of them are women and children who have had to seek safety on their own, leaving their husbands, fathers, brothers and sons behind.

As this crisis continues to evolve, we are working with Anglican agencies and our other partners to provide humanitarian assistance, and urgently ask for your help.

Your emergency gift today will support our immediate response, providing cash, blankets, hygiene supplies and other needs as this crisis unfolds.

Our faith networks are currently on the ground in the border areas of Poland, Hungary and Romania, and we will continue to coordinate with them in order to help those who have been displaced. Specifically, our partner ACT Alliance is helping families on the Hungarian border, and our Anglican partners are mobilizing both an immediate and long-term response in Poland, Romania and Hungary.

Yours faithfully,

Robert W. Radtke
