Celebrating John Whitt's Ministry with Us
THIS SUNDAY - JULY 26
Join us for a celebration of
John Whitt's ministry with us.
We will worship together at 10 am
and then celebrate afterwards
with a catered lunch and fellowship
in the Parish Hall.
Although the meal will be catered,
PARISHIONERS ARE INVITED TO
BRING A YUMMY DESSERT TO SHARE.
Come share your love with John and April!
A "Purse" or "Love Offering" for John
Amongst the ways that we will offer thanks to John for his long tenure and ministry with us is by collecting a "purse" or "love offering" in thanksgiving for John. You may contribute by designating a gift of cash or a check and placing it in the Sunday collection or dropping it off in the office. You may also make an online gift through Realm by clicking on the link below and choosing "John Whitt's Purse" from the fund list - now located below the amount field.

Calling Any and All Parish Musicians
Play with John One Last Time
You might have noticed that over the summer, we have been singing metrical settings of the Nicene Creed. We change the tunes each month. During July, we are using the tune called Holy Manna. This is an old, well-loved and well-known early American hymn tune from the collection called Southern Harmony and is used for a number of texts in our hymnal and supplements. In short, everybody knows this tune, and if you play any kind of instrument at all, you can play this one, too!
For my last Sunday as music director (July 26), I’m inviting everyone — and I mean everyone — who plays any sort of instrument to join in a musical rendition of this tune. Young or old, professional or amateur, seasoned or novice — bring your instrument and join in. It’ll be fun and festive and I would love the chance to play with you, even if it’s our first time. Guitar, violin, flute, recorder, penny whistle, banjo, bagpipe, drum, you name it, it doesn’t matter — bring it and play it.
The ONLY requirement — practice on your own, learn and play the song in the key of G, and come at 9:40 to check in with me on Sunday the 26th!
You can download the music (with simple chords) here. If you play by ear, YouTube will have many versions of it that you could play along with and learn the song. We started using this on July 5, so you could also check our live stream to hear the tune.
When we play we’ll gather in the open floor space to the left of the organ. Not sure when in the liturgy yet, but either when we sing the creed, or as an instrumental at the Offertory. RSVP would be nice, but not required! If you need a file or guidance, email me at the address below.
Please just come and play with me! Let’s make it joyous!
Not too seriously yours,
John Whitt

Mission Week 2026
Our Youth had a great time being together and serving the greater community during Mission Week 2026 (July 12-17). The week kicked off with making Bede Bags on Sunday afternoon and then handing them out in the local community. Then, over the next four days, our Youth spent time serving at The Atlanta Community Food Bank, Project Open Hand, StandUp for Kids, and NETWorks Food Pantry. The week wrapped up with a lock-in at St. Bede's on Thursday night that included karaoke, movies, pizza, and games.
Thanks to all who participated!

Popcorn Theology
Saturday, August 1, 2026
5:30 p.m. - 8:45 p.m.
"Rental Family"
Join us to share a simple meal that will include pizza, salad, fresh fruit, popcorn, and homemade cookies. There will be dairy free, gluten free and vegetarian options available. After dinner, we'll watch this 2025 film, rated PG-13, 110 minutes.
This is a clever, heartwarming and thoughtful comedy-drama set in modern Tokyo. Phillip ( Academy Award winning actor Brendan Fraser) is a lonely, loveably awkward American actor who is struggling to find purpose in his life. He lands an unusual acting gig with a Japanese agency to play stand-in roles for people who are strangers to him. As he immerses himself in his clients' lives, he begins to form genuine bonds with his clients, blurring the lines between a "performance" and reality. He begins to wake up to the moral complexities of his work, rediscovers his purpose in life, and finds and is found by belonging and the quiet beauty in human connection.
Following the movie, we'll have a brief conversation about where we saw and heard transformation, healing, God and Love in the movie, along with ways in which our lives connect with the story in the film. We'll end our time together with Night Prayer.
A $10.00 contribution is requested for the meal, or whatever amount works for you.

ART FROM THE HEART GALLERY NEWS
Our third "Art From the Heart Gallery" show has ended. Thank you to all who helped make it a success! Our next official show will be installed on August 13 and 14 and our Opening Reception will be held on August 15. Put that date on your calendars and plan to attend. Details will follow as we get closer to that date.
In the interim we are trying something new. We have invited the artists on the AFTH Gallery Committee, and a few others who helped with the organization and events, to display some of their work before our next show. Each of those artists will have their own space on the walls, and each work will have its own description placed beside it. Contact information for the artists will be included and anyone wishing to purchase a piece can do so directly through the artist. The artist will be asked for the 20% commission for all sales. If a piece is purchased, the buyer can take it home immediately. This is an experiment and we will see how it goes!

Finding Healing
for Our Divided Country
Now meeting weekly
on Monday evenings on Zoom
from 6:30 to 8 pm.
In person every Thursday morning
9 to 10 am
at Mint Coffeehouse
3926 Lawrenceville Hwy in Tucker
A discussion group, grounded in prayer, for those who have questions, concerns, and emotions that feel too big, and need a safe place to process with others.
We will see what participants need from this group. Perhaps it will just be a place to express what you are feeling, or maybe some will want to know what action can be taken.
And we will pray together.
Some questions to consider:
How are you doing, and what are you feeling?
Where are you in terms of processing changing public policy?
How can we live the values of our faith
in the face of conflicting public policy?
Facilitators: Muriel Diguette and Molly Graves
Please contact Muriel Diguette at digfam@att.net
if you are interested in joining.

Coming to St. Bede's
Fall of 2026
St. Bede’s is the latest church in the Diocese to establish a Community of Hope International Center as part of St. Bede’s. Community of Hope International (COHI for short) is a spiritual formation program steeped in Benedictine spirituality. It provides 1500 years of experience in how we can live in our modern day world as Jesus would have us.
We are excited to offer COHI classes to St. Bede’s starting on August 29 and continuing roughly every other week until early March. Learn more by attending an informational meeting on August 2 at 11:30’ish (following the 10 am service) in Room 110. We will have a small class size limited to 14 people. Please come and learn more about this wonderful program and prayerfully consider if this will nourish you spiritually.
Following the formation program, there is an opportunity to be Commissioned and join the Circle of Care, a monthly program for ongoing formation, support, and practice living (being) in community.
COHI practices lead to:
- A way of seeing ourselves - humility
- A way of seeing time - balancing prayer, work, study, and leisure
- A way of seeing others - hospitality
- A way of seeing spiritual growth - conversion, obedience, and stability
For more information contact Connie Coralli or Claudia Fedarko.
Additional program leaders include Laura Martin, Muriel Diguette and Gwen Heaton.

New Digital Assisted Listening System
for St. Bede's Nave
Thanks to a a generous grant, we have upgraded our Nave sound system with a new digital assisted listening server. This digital server will stream the Nave audio directly to your smartphone and, from there, it can be delivered through wired headphones, Bluetooth devices, or, if you have smart phone enabled hearing aids, the audio can be streamed directly into the hearing aids. Our hope is that this system can improve speech intelligibility for any who have a difficult time hearing or understanding the spoken word in the Nave.
The FIRST STEP to use the new system is download the "ListenWIFI" app onto your smartphone by clicking on one of the links below. The app is free and does not require any type of registration or password (thank goodness!). The app will not work until you are at St. Bede's and connected to our Wi-Fi network.
The SECOND STEP is to arrive at St. Bede's and connect to the new "St. Bede's - Guest" Wi-Fi network which is an open network that requires no password (thank goodness, again!). The system will not work if you connect to the old "stbedes" password protected network.
Please let us know if you need help connecting!

The Summer Singers of Atlanta present Arthur Honeggar's KING DAVID
Sunday, August 2
Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church on the campus of Emory University
4:00 - 5:30 pm
KING DAVID is a highly dramatic work, performed with choir, chamber winds, percussion, piano, organ, a narrator & distinguished soloists.
A rarely performed masterwork, KING DAVID is by French composer Arthur Honegger (1892-1955). Sung in English, the work is highly dramatic and features a narrator, soprano, alto, and tenor soloists, as well as movements for mixed, treble, and tenor-bass choirs. The famous final chorus, "And God Said One Day Shall Dawn" brings some of the most majestic music of the early 20th century!
Our own Ella Rich will be part of this production! Click below for more information.
