Children's Formation

for Children Age 3 - Grade 5

We have two offerings of Children's Formation on Sundays.

The first is during 10 am worship where children begin worship with their families for a short time and are then invited to process out with their teachers to the Godly Play room (M-102), usually during the Hymn of Praise or other hymn. During the time of the Sermon and the Prayers of the People they hear a special story and engage in activities tailored just for them. The children return to church at the Passing of the Peace to join their families and the congregation for Communion.

The second formation time is between the 10 am and 1:30 pm worship, during which time there are also formation offerings for adults and youth. We gather around 11:30-11:45 am in the Commons, and then move to classroom M-102 in the Mission Wing. This formation time focusing on learning about the stories of the People of God and growing in understanding about what we do in church worship.

All 3 year olds through 5th graders are welcome to join us. Older children are welcome as helpers and younger children may join with a parent, grandparent, or other caregiver. Both classes are taught in English.

We will use this model for the start of the Christian Formation year and, in the weeks ahead, we will be inviting parents, grandparents, and guardians of young children into conversations about how we can shape our Children's Christian Formation program to better serve the needs of our community.

Prayer Vigil for Extra-Ordinary Times

We are holding a weekly, half-hour prayer vigil for the country on Sundays after 10 am worship, in room M108. Feel free to come by for a short time or for the entire time.

1,2,3,4 Campaign Update

Two weeks ago, Members of the St. Bede's Community were invited to participate in a special appeal to help balance the St. Bede's 2025 Budget before we launch the 2026 Pledge Campaign.

TO ALL WHO HAVE RESPONDED!

As of Thursday, November 6 we have received 41 gifts totaling $17,000 toward our goal of $24,000. If you would like to help us close this gap and meet our budgeted revenue goal, please consider giving through the link below (choose 1,2,3,4 Campaign from fund list). You can also give by cash or check on Sunday in the collection plate. We will be closing this appeal this week as we move into and annual pledge campaign season.

Our second Art From the Heart Gallery show is taking shape. We think you will all be pleased with the artwork that has been submitted so far! We have had to change some of the dates, however. This is a good thing as it allows more time for area artists to submit their work. The new deadline for submission of art is November 7, 2025.

Please let your friends and family members know. Moving that date requires us to move the Opening Reception as well. The new date for the reception is November 22, 2025. The most exciting news about this new date is that it coincides with the music performance that evening. We will have a full day of art and music – a great way to lean into Autumn.

Art and Music at St. Bede’s

Monteverdi’s Theater of Emotions: Shades of Love

Join us for an intimate evening of Claudio Monteverdi’s vocal music, where passion and tenderness come alive through song. Part of the day’s events surrounding Art from the Heart. Come to the art opening and reception (ends at 7:00) and stay for a concert you will not soon forget (starts at 7:30).

Sopranos Wanda Yang Temko and Zorica Pavlovic share the spotlight, their voices intertwining so seamlessly that they are often indistinguishable. The program balances Monteverdi’s ornate, melismatic duets and solos with his most lyrical and heartfelt writing.

They are joined by Jacob Bitinas (viola da gamba), Charles Iner (theorbo), and Brian Bishop (harpsichord), who will also perform instrumental interludes from the same region and era. Special guest Brittany Salkill on baroque transverse flute. 

Suggested donation: $20 – Everyone is welcome; no one will be turned away. Portion of proceeds to benefit St. Bede’s Music Fund.

THE SIX TRIPLE EIGHT

Our next gathering will be Saturday, November 15th in the Parish Hall. After eating a simple meal of Mellow Mushroom pizza, salad, fresh fruit and homemade cookies with vegetarian, gluten free and dairy free options available, we’ll watch the 2024 film “The Six Triple Eight”.

The film is based on the true story of the courageous group of 855 women of color serving in the U.S. Women’s Army Corp during World War II who were the first unit of Black women to serve overseas. Led by Major Charity Adams (Kerry Washington), the unit faced discrimination from their fellow American Army officers and soldiers both at home and overseas. When they arrived in Europe, they were assigned to serve in the Postal Directory Battalion, given the job of sorting millions of pieces of mail between soldiers in Europe and their loved ones at home. The mail had been piled up in countless hangars for many months, deemed by others to be impossible to sort and to deliver. The Six Triple Eight women were given six months to complete the job. The film is full of poignant moments, as well as with moments of humor, joy, friendship and support.

Directed and produced by Tyler Perry. Rated PG-13 for brief scenes of a battle and racist language.

After watching the film, we will have a brief conversation to share the ways in which we heard and saw God in the film, as well as to share how we connected or identified with something in the story.



All are welcome. The suggested contribution to cover the cost of the meal is $10.00.

A discussion group, grounded in prayer, for those who have questions, concerns, and emotions that feel too big, and need a safe place to process with others.

We will see what participants need from this group. Perhaps it will just be a place to express what you are feeling, or maybe some will want to know what action can be taken.

And we will pray together.

Some questions to consider:

How are you doing, and what are you feeling?

Where are you in terms of processing changing public policy?

How can we live the values of our faith

in the face of conflicting public policy?

Social Justice Advocacy Group Forming

We are a parish who believes in social justice. It is part of our baptismal covenant to care for those who are less fortunate and those who suffer. Some of our members have been engaging in social justice advocacy work. One example is marching in protest marches or attending rallies.

Bar Soap for NETWorks!

We are beginning a new and ongoing outreach ministry. Rita Channell, a parishioner and faithful volunteer at Networks Cooperative Ministry, has noticed that many clients who shop at the food pantry often look for bar soap, but there is rarely any donated. To assist with this need, we now have a permanent basket located near the kitchen and labelled "Bar Soap and Toiletries". We kindly ask for donations of bar soap which Rita will collect weekly and donate to the food pantry.

Another wonderful opportunity to care for our neighbors! Thank you for your support!

Support Thanksgiving at Home 

through Emmaus House

Please join the community of St. Bede’s in our annual food drive to provide a traditional Thanksgiving dinner for more than 200 families in need. We are seeking donations of the items listed below. Emmaus House will provide the turkeys!

Challenge: Let's surpass last year's donation of 189 bags of food!

Each bag needs the following ingredients:

• 2 Cans of String Beans (English cut)
• 2 Cans of Corn
• 2 Cans of Peas
• 1 Can of Cranberry Sauce
• 1 Large Bag of Stuffing
• 1 Box of Brownie Mix
• 1 Bag of Rice (1 lb.)
• 2 Boxes of Cornbread / Muffin Mix

Please place all of the items into 

one large reusable grocery bag with handles 

and deliver your bag to St. Bede’s 

anytime on or before

Our Neighbors in Need

I have been asked how we can support our neighbors who will lose their SNAP benefits on November 1. 

Approximately 1.4 million Georgians receive SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits, which is about 1 in 8 residents of the state. A significant portion of recipients are children, senior citizens. 

My suggestions are to support our local food pantries where many families will go for food support. Financial donations are the best way to support these food pantries.

Toco Hills Community Alliance

Contact Governor Kemp and ask him to release the billions in reserve to support Georgia’s SNAP program. 

Contact your US Representative, Senators Warnock and Ossoff, and ask them to support the Department of Agriculture to spend the money (6 billion dollars) allotted for SNAP benefits in the event of a government shutdown.

Are you aware of the Welcome Co-op?

Here's a place to consider if you are looking for ways to support refugees though volunteer work or cash or in-kind donations. They have a large truck to pick up accepted furniture items.

The Welcome Co-op is Georgia’s trusted advocate for new refugees, helping to secure housing and ensure a smooth and seamless transition for our state’s newest and ever-resilient residents.

As a collaborative effort between four-storied institutions — New American Pathways, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Atlanta, Catholic Charities Atlanta, and Inspiritus — the Welcome Co-op marshals the collective resources of each organization to make an impact even greater than the sum of its parts.

Together, we create partnerships with apartment complexes and affordable housing arrangements across the state. We welcome refugees from the moment they set foot on American soil and transition them to their new homes. And we operate a donation-driven thrift store, the Shop of Hope, that provides quality clothing and shoes to refugees at no cost.



As we all watch the tragic events of violence escalate in Jerusalem and Palestine, it is so important to keep the people of the Holy Land in our prayers.

Invitation to Prayer Shawl Ministry



Prayer shawls are used to provide comfort, acknowledge joy or appreciation, say goodbye, or any other reason to share God’s love. They may be used in prayer, and the act of making them is prayer. Making them with friends is church.

Currently, a prayer shawl group meets one morning and one evening a month. You are invited to attend one or both meetings.

New Welcoming Signage for St. Bede’s

When you arrive at St. Bede’s this week (or, perhaps, you have already been or driven by), you will notice that new welcoming signage has been installed on Henderson Mill Road, the Midvale Road entrance, the front driveway, and above the front doors. These signs extend our branding and spirit of welcome out into the world and bid others to come inside and join us. The new signage incorporates the St. Bede’s logo that was designed in 2018 by our own John Whitt. They also include a welcoming message in both English & Spanish as well as the Episcopal shield. The new signage – along with ongoing welcoming improvements to the Commons – has been funded through the support of the Sisters of Bede. Thank you, Sisters!

While the new signage was being developed, the Vestry also commissioned a new welcoming and affirming sign to be added to our “Episcopal Church Welcomes You” sign at the Midvale Road entrance. This welcoming and affirming Episcopal Shield was developed by the Episcopal Church in 2024 for use in communities, such as St. Bede’s, that have long offered a public welcome and witness as open and affirming communities. This symbol encapsulates the values stated in the St. Bede’s Welcoming Statement that has been part of our worship publications and our online presence for over a decade, but allows this spirit of welcome and affirmation to be recognized quickly as people drive or walk past St. Bede’s.

We hope that the new beautiful signage will welcome more people seeking to know the love of God into the beautiful beloved community that is St. Bede’s.

New Digital Assisted Listening System

for St. Bede's Nave

Thanks to a a generous grant, we have upgraded our Nave sound system with a new digital assisted listening server. This digital server will stream the Nave audio directly to your smartphone and, from there, it can be delivered through wired headphones, Bluetooth devices, or, if you have smart phone enabled hearing aids, the audio can be streamed directly into the hearing aids. Our hope is that this system can improve speech intelligibility for any who have a difficult time hearing or understanding the spoken word in the Nave.

The FIRST STEP to use the new system is download the "ListenWIFI" app onto your smartphone by clicking on one of the links below. The app is free and does not require any type of registration or password (thank goodness!). The app will not work until you are at St. Bede's and connected to our Wi-Fi network.

The SECOND STEP is to arrive at St. Bede's and connect to the new "St. Bede's - Guest" Wi-Fi network which is an open network that requires no password (thank goodness, again!). The system will not work if you connect to the old "stbedes" password protected network.

We have reorganized our prayer list and are trying to make it more manageable going forward. Names will remain on the prayer list for 3 weeks unless otherwise requested. If you have placed someone on the prayer list and you would now like that person removed, please notify the office. Please request removal only for names which you have placed on the list. We are always happy to request prayer for our parishioners and our extended community.

As violence escalates in Ukraine, over one million people have already fled the country — and the borders are flooded with many more people desperate to leave.

Almost all of them are women and children who have had to seek safety on their own, leaving their husbands, fathers, brothers and sons behind.

As this crisis continues to evolve, we are working with Anglican agencies and our other partners to provide humanitarian assistance, and urgently ask for your help.

Your emergency gift today will support our immediate response, providing cash, blankets, hygiene supplies and other needs as this crisis unfolds.

Our faith networks are currently on the ground in the border areas of Poland, Hungary and Romania, and we will continue to coordinate with them in order to help those who have been displaced. Specifically, our partner ACT Alliance is helping families on the Hungarian border, and our Anglican partners are mobilizing both an immediate and long-term response in Poland, Romania and Hungary.
