Children's Formation for
Children Age 3 - Grade 5
Instead of Sunday School being either before or after worship, children are invited to gather together during the time of the Sermon and the Prayers of the People for a special story or activity that is tailored just for them. Children will come to worship with their families and will be invited to process out for this special time during the signing of a hymn. They will then return at the Passing of the Peace to join their families and the congregation for Communion.
All 3 year olds through 5th graders are welcome to join us. Older children are welcome as helpers and younger children may join with a parent, grandparent, or other caregiver.

After six years as our Parish Bookkeeper, Ashley Brown is leaving us to work in the financial office at St. Benedict's Episcopal School in Smyrna. Ashley has faithfully shepherded our finances with attention to detail and has helped introduce processes and solutions that have streamlined our financial operations. We will miss her and wish her blessings in her new endeavor with St. Benedict's School.

As is the case when an employee departs, we will collect a "purse" or "love offering" to show our appreciation. If you would like to show your appreciation for Ashley's ministry with us, you may make a contribution to this purse. Please designate your gift for "Ashley's Purse". You can also give online through Realm by selecting "Ashley's Purse" from the fund listing.

To continue the smooth operations of our parish finances, we have hired Ellen Hopkins to be our new Parish Bookkeeper. Ellen comes to us with tremendous experience in church administration and financial management. She's adds St. Bede's to her current portfolio of churches where she continues to serve as bookkeeper or financial manager - Holy Trinity Parish, Decatur; Church of Our Saviour, Atlanta, and Haygood Memorial United Methodist Church, Atlanta. Look for a more full introduction and welcome to Ellen in a future E-News.
Ellen has begun working with Ashley in transitioning and will begin her work with us on Monday, September 9. We anticipate that Ellen will be working in the office on Mondays going forward instead of Wednesdays. Please be patient as we move through this time of transition.

ART FROM THE HEART GALLERY
“ART FROM THE HEART” - REIMAGINED AND RETURNING
As fall is approaching, many have asked if our vendors market, “Art From the Heart,” is returning to St. Bede’s in November. This event, hosted in partnership with Church of Our Saviour, was supported by so many parishioners from both parishes, by our friends, and by our community. It was born from a desire to bring people through our doors and into our very special space and to support and celebrate local artists. We have managed to meet both goals over the past years, but it is time for a change.
In pre-pandemic days there were fewer opportunities for artists to showcase their work, and in the first few years, we had as many vendor applications as we could manage. Since then, Artist Markets have become more available, and our loyal vendors are finding it difficult to participate when buyers are more numerous elsewhere. So, we are transforming the “Art From the Heart” concept.
Instead of a weekend market, we are exploring the idea of creating an art gallery in our Commons. Every 8-10 weeks we would display a different “show” comprised of the work of local artists and area art organizations. The specific details are still being determined, but it is anticipated that we will have an opening party to introduce each show and possibly coordinate some of those openings with musical events – concerts or recitals. Works displayed will, for the most part, be for sale and the Church will receive a percentage of the sales. Those funds will pay for the initial set up costs, opening party expenses, and contributions to various Church projects. Church of the Epiphany, Holy Innocents and other local Churches have galleries, and we can benefit from their expertise.
There are several exciting volunteer opportunities available. We need volunteers who can climb ladders while wielding a hammer to help us install the hardware necessary for hanging the art. We need folks who can serve as our social media/publicity committee, a job that gets easier once the contacts are established. We need folks who will help with the food and set-up for the opening parties. If we decide to open the gallery to the public during hours the Church is not open and staffed, we need volunteers to welcome visitors. Last, but not least, if you have experience hanging a show, let me know.

Invitation to Prayer Shawl Ministry
Prayer shawls are used to provide comfort, acknowledge joy or appreciation, say goodbye, or any other reason to share God’s love. They may be used in prayer, and the act of making them is prayer. Making them with friends is church.
Currently, a prayer shawl group meets one morning and one evening a month. You are invited to attend one or both meetings.

First Monday Prayer Shawl Meeting: 10:00 -11:30 am in room M108. The next meeting will be on Monday, September 9.

Hello, fellow cheerful givers!
From September 8 through September 29, the Outreach Committee is sponsoring a diabetic sock drive for the Church of the Common Ground, which is a worshipping community of the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta.
This year, the Church of the Common Ground is asking for donations of:
· diabetic socks only (no regular socks) OR…
· $ cash donations $ and we will buy socks for you
The Outreach Committee has even created an Amazon wish list with suggestions of diabetic socks to make it easy for you.

As we all watch the tragic events of violence escalate in Jerusalem and Palestine, it is so important to keep the people of the Holy Land in our prayers.
In addition to our prayers, St. Bede's has also transmitted a gift of $500 to Episcopal Relief and Development (ERD) for relief efforts related to the travesties of this conflict. Sadly, one of ERD's strongest and longest-standing partners in the Diocese of Jerusalem is the Al Ahli Arab Hospital - the Anglican hospital in Gaza that was severely damaged by explosion and where hundreds of people were killed. Please keep relief workers on the ground in your prayers as they attempt to offer care and relief.

McLemore's Musings
We hope you are enjoying this feature in St. Bede's E-News - McLemore's Musings. Many of you have met the Rev'd Bill McLemore who has joined the St. Bede's community. Bill has been a priest for over 57 years and has served parishes all over the Episcopal Church. Bill is the former archivist of the Diocese of Atlanta and authored the 100th anniversary book on the history of the Diocese. Bill is also an artist and has used his artistic skills and sense of humor for many years to draw hundreds of cartoon that comically comment on life in the Episcopal Church. Each week we will share a cartoon here that Bill selects from his collection. Enjoy!

As violence escalates in Ukraine, over one million people have already fled the country — and the borders are flooded with many more people desperate to leave.
Almost all of them are women and children who have had to seek safety on their own, leaving their husbands, fathers, brothers and sons behind.
As this crisis continues to evolve, we are working with Anglican agencies and our other partners to provide humanitarian assistance, and urgently ask for your help.
Your emergency gift today will support our immediate response, providing cash, blankets, hygiene supplies and other needs as this crisis unfolds.
Our faith networks are currently on the ground in the border areas of Poland, Hungary and Romania, and we will continue to coordinate with them in order to help those who have been displaced. Specifically, our partner ACT Alliance is helping families on the Hungarian border, and our Anglican partners are mobilizing both an immediate and long-term response in Poland, Romania and Hungary.
