St. Christopher's Newsletter, November 19, 2020
Dear St. Christopher’s,

Your welcome of me has been incredibly heartwarming! COVID has made so much of what we do difficult yet everyone is finding ways to connect, by phone, by email, by letter and over fire pits. The picture I am getting is of a community which has, in some cases, been together for a long time –life-long friends who joined the church over fifty years ago and at the same time, a community of people who are moving through the area as they are transferred in and out of Virginia.

The deep level of care and prayer here, for each other, seems to know no difference and embraces all.

I am so excited to be among you and to be sharing the journey ahead. Together we will listen for God’s call to our community. Together we will develop our ministries to children, families, teens and adults. Together we will offer to our world a commitment to beautiful music and fine liturgy, to life giving outreach and to the education of children. That will take all of us contributing – some of our time, some of our gifts and some of our wealth.
In this unprecedented time, it is critical that we all pledge the financial support we can, to ensure that we can continue ministries built over the years and to fund the work we dream about doing together. Thank you.

Thank you for welcoming me, a stranger. Thank you for years of supporting the work of our local schools, and the ministries of ECHO and FACETS. Thank you for creating a beautiful planted campus, protecting and honoring our environment,
And thank you for imagining the future – all that we, at St. Christopher’s might accomplish in the years to come.

It is good to be home.

Upcoming Events
Our Episcopal tradition gives us some rich ways to live our faith at home and there has never been a time when finding ways to live our faith at home has mattered more. Advent wreaths made of live greens with four candles- one for each week of the season are a simple and beautiful way to bring the light of this season into our homes. Each evening we light that week’s candle and say the accompanying prayer marking the journey toward Christ’s birth. Hope, Peace, Joy and Love.

November 29, the first day of Advent and the first day of the Church’s new year, you can come and make a wreath. Tables with supplies will be set around the Hanover Ave parking lot for safe and socially distanced wreath building. Please consider a $5.00 donation to cover the cost of the candles requested with thanks to the St. Christopher’s Flower Guild for donations of other supplies and volunteers.

Donations of clippings of greens are Needed- boxwood, yew, holly and others. Small leaves work best, and your pruning’s will become something beautiful! Call the church office to say you will donate a bag or more by Saturday, November 28.

United Thank Offering (UTO) Ingathering is this Sunday, November 22, 2020
The UTO Annual Ingathering is November 22. This year, since we’re not worshipping in person, we’re not collecting the blue boxes, so please donate using the procedures for regular donations, detailed in the Bulletin, and indicate it’s for UTO.
