A Message from Mother Carey

Beloved friends, Happy Easter! As we enter this most joyous season I am thinking about all the gifts offered so lovingly here at St. Christopher’s. Musicians, flowers – offered and arranged, service leaders, ushers, greeters all shared their talents to make this Easter an especially beautiful one.

Joining a ministry group is a wonderful way to get connected, to have fun, to meet people AND to build up life here at St. Christopher’s. All of our areas – Christian formation- both children and adults, Parish Life (a.k.a. the really fun people), Outreach to our community, Communication- digital and print, Building care, Grounds care, Acolytes, Ushers, Greeters, bread baking ministry, Music- both singers and musicians – all could use your care and love. We all have something beautiful to offer! If you want to learn more our Vestry representatives are happy to share their passion with you. Reach out and let them know you want to be involved.

Easter is a time of seeing ourselves as a new creation. How might you live into something new?

Our position description for a Music Director and Organist has been crafted and posted to the American Organist Guild, Anglican Musicians and on the Diocesan job page and shared locally. We hope to hire someone this summer to start with us in the fall. If you know of anyone who might be interested, please direct them to our website for more information.

In the meantime, we have been graced with the talent of Linda Eagan, our interim Music Director, and by the gifts of our local musicians, the St. Christopher’s Choir and our new, great, St. Christopher’s Travelin’ Band. Stay tuned for updates about the search and for places and times to hear our Band play.

St. Christopher’s has an opening on our finance team for a part-time bookkeeper. The position requires comprehensive knowledge of double entry bookkeeping, Quick books, and maintenance of tax records for the Church. To learn more please email Mother Carey at or Parish Treasurer, Deb Frear at

Thank you!

Each spring, our preschool board recruits two new members to take the place of those rolling off at the end of their three-year terms. It's that time again! The six-member board works with the priest, the vestry liaison, and the preschool director and bookkeeper to guide our preschool. Service on the preschool board is a great way to get to know the workings of the preschool and the larger church, not to mention some of your fellow parishioners! As volunteer gigs go, this one is nearly effortless: your commitment is one evening meeting per month, with no meeting in July. The board has been meeting via Zoom and plans to continue using this convenient format. You don't even have to leave your house! Please contact the current preschool board chair, Jen Guernsey, at or (703) 887-6485 for more information or to volunteer.

Lynbrook Elementary School, on Backlick Road in Springfield, needs volunteers during school hours to help children check out books and to reshelve books. Volunteers, preferably bilingual in English and Spanish, are needed on Saturdays and during the week to read to children at the laundromat on Commerce Street, while their parent(s) do the laundry. The GrandInvolve organization is coordinating both efforts. For more information, please contact Michele Duell at, or John Quinn

Yard Sale May 7th in the Hanover Parking Lot

Following a model we've used before, three committees will sponsor a Parish Yard Sale on Saturday, May 7th in the Hanover parking lot from 9 am until 1 pm. If you wish to have a table, please let us know. Tables are $10 or 10% of your sales and net proceeds will go to one of St. Christopher's programs. The last time we held this several years ago, we had great neighborhood turnout. Also, we'll be offering hot dogs, drinks and chips for a donation. If you have items to donate and don't want to buy a table, please contact one of us and we'll "fetch" the items from your house. If you bought plants from the Preschool, this is the pickup day, so pickup your plants and come one over to the Yard Sale in the upper parking lot. Richard Sellers (, Meredith Carlton ( and Deb Kim (
