The Cornerstone Endowment: One Couple’s Experience.
|
St. David’s regularly gets questions about the Cornerstone Endowment, usually centering on its structure, purpose and operation. With the increased activity, tremendous growth and incredible participation, we will publish periodic refreshers on these and other endowment-related topics.
If you have questions after reading this or any future article or are interested in learning more about the Cornerstone Endowment, contact a member of the Endowment Committee. Seriously. We like to talk about this stuff.
In this edition, we’ll discuss one couple’s experience on how and why they decided to contribute to the Cornerstone Endowment Fund and the recommendations they have for others. Read and download a PDF of the complete article on the St. David’s website.

Beacon Interfaith Housing
Reflections on Beacon Interfaith Housing at Cranberry Ridge
St. David’s has been a part of the planning team to help this family housing initiative becomes a reality. The conversation to build Cranberry Ridge started in 2016 with several congregations in the western suburbs, led by Wayzata Community Church and Beacon. At that time, in Plymouth alone, 3300 families lived in poverty, of those 409 were homeless.
After years of planning, advocacy, and obtaining the needed funds, construction began in May 2021 to build the 45 apartments for working families who earn less than $52,000 a year for a family of four. Twelve of the homes will be for families who make less than $31,000 a year for a family of four. Underground parking, community lounge, a playground and a youth program space will be among the amenities offered at the building. Support services are provided by Interfaith Outreach and Support Services in Plymouth.
Please join me in welcoming families to Cranberry Ridge by attending the community picnic on August 30 with details and registration below. All are invited!

Outdoor Produce Market this Saturday
If you know anyone who may be experiencing some food insecurity, please let them know about ICA’s outdoor produce market this Saturday, August 27. A great variety of fresh vegetables and fruits will be available for pick-up, no appointment needed. They just need to stop by Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 725 Minnetonka Mills Road in Hopkins between 10 a.m. and 12 noon.
Brown Bags Needed
ICA is in urgent need of brown paper bags. As client number continue to increase, we are going through paper bags even faster than usual. If you have any spare bags at home, please consider donating them to ICA. You can leave them in one of the ICA baskets either at the south or east church entrances. Thank you!
ICA Bazaar Saturday
The ICA Bazaar is hosting a public, in-person sale this Saturday, August 27 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Stop by to browse the selection of household goods, rugs, toys, bikes, and much more! No checks allowed; cash preferred. Card sale available with a minimum $25 purchase. The bazaar sale is being held in the lower level of the ICA Offices at 12990 St. David’s Road. You’ll be surprised how many things you will find that you could use and your purchase goes to a great cause.
Birthday Bags
Looking for something to do with your kids in these last days before school starts. Consider putting together some birthday bags for the school-age children of ICA clients. This spring ICA started a birthday bag program which has been most appreciated by clients and their children.
Fill each birthday bag with cake mix, frosting, candles, birthday plates and napkins (kids love having plates & napkins with popular themes). You can bring them to the Food Shelf on K-Tel Drive or leave them in the ICA baskets at St. David’s.

An Invitation from Good Courage Farm
Food for All:
Partner with Good Courage by helping to grow and share the farm's organic produce
Good Courage Farm, located 68 miles from the Twin Cities, is a fully-functional farm that is in partnership with the Episcopal Church. The farmers use organic and increasingly regenerative methods to grow lots of perennial food crops. The 18-acre farmstead is home to cats, dogs, ducks, goats and a few stray peafowl, as well as a myriad of other creatures - songbirds, frogs, grasshoppers, bats and more!
Located in Hutchinson, a major part of Good Courage Farm's mission is to share the food that they produce and they donate a large portion of their crops to Minnesota food pantries, including First Nations Kitchen - one of their major food partners.
Two of the major crops donated to First Nations Kitchen are apples and potatoes. The farm is looking for some volunteers over the next few weeks to aid in some work directly relating to the crops to be donated to First Nations Kitchen. Volunteers can work partial or full days, lunch and lemonade are provided - and you can spend your breaks petting the goats, watching the peahens trying to get into the barn, or being amused by the team of adolescent tuxedo ducks. This is truly a magical place, and they need our help!
Reach out to Laura Natta via text or telephone to support the vision and seed the future - and help First Nations Kitchen at the same time. 417-849-3474.

Pie and Prayer Services at Good Courage Farm are held on Wednesday evenings at 7:00pm and Saturday mornings at 9:00am. This is a beautiful time of prayer and worship, chanting Psalms, reflecting in the Gospel, and eating homemade pie!
