Church this Sunday

8:00 and 9:30 Holy Eucharist

With guest preacher and celebrant, the Rev. Anna Ostenso Moore!

The Rev. Anna V. Ostenso Moore found the Episcopal Church as a teenager. Sitting by the side of a lake in Northern Minnesota after college graduation, she felt a call to faith formation grounded in community, wonder, Holy mystery, and our Sacred Stories. That call has led her across the Atlantic Ocean and back. She is author of the picture books “Today is a Baptism Day” and “We Gather at This Table,” inspired by the beauty of the families with whom she works. Her educational background includes a BA in Chinese International Studies from Middlebury College, Vermont and an MA in Youth Ministry and Theological Education from King’s College, London. She has served at churches in Surrey, UK and Minnesota. She is currently on the Episcopal Church in Minnesota’s Racial Justice and Healing Formation Team.

Wife, mother, priest, daughter, sister, aunt, godparent, and friend, her greatest joys include her toddler’s laugh, a good pot of tea with her husband David, and dancing at every opportunity.

Children's Time will take place during the 9:30 service for children age 3 through grade 5. Children are invited to stay after worship, and join the Rev. Anna in the Undercroft for a reading of one of her books!

We will continue to Facebook Livestream the Sunday 9:30 service and upload to YouTube to accommodate those who choose to stay home.

10:45-11:30 Listener's Dare - Community Forum

Join us for a series of Sunday community forums where we as listeners dare to hear a word from God.

In his book “Listener’s Dare: Hearing God in the sermon” Bishop Will Willimon reminds us of the audacious claim that Jesus made as he sent his followers out in pairs to testify to the Good News “whoever listens to you, listens to me”!  For reasons known only to God, preaching is the primary way that God choses to speak to God’s people. So join us as we spend time in small groups, reflecting on the sermon and the scripture readings and asking questions that help us better understand… What is God saying to us today?

Men's Retreat

Men’s Retreat: What Does it Mean to Live A Courageous Life?

Sat., Mar. 11, 8:30-11:30 AM | St. David’s Episcopal Church

If we can stand whole-heartedly wherever we are and notice the Spirit stirring us to live – really live, then we have everything we need to stop waiting for improvements in this circumstance or that and start with the next step God is calling us to take. Join spiritual directors Peter Watkins and Sam Rahberg for thoughtful examination and meaningful conversation. We’ll have morning prayer, short presentations, and discussion. Then we’ll bless wherever the Spirit is leading each of us. Come for coffee at 8:30 AM. We’ll adjourn by 11:30 AM and you’re welcome to stick around for lunch.

Suggested donation of $25 to cover the cost of the event, payable to St. David's.

For more information, contact the Rev. Guy Drake, gdrake@stdavidsparish.org.

U of M Morris Choir Concert

The concert is free and open to the public, and will include a freewill offering for Saint David’s.

St. David’s is seeking a part-time Sexton

We are looking for someone willing to work 17-20 hours a week taking care of our building, arranging furniture as needed for services and programs.  A position description that lists responsibilities and expectations can be found on the home page of our website at:  www.stdavidsparish.org  or by contacting us at staffing@stdavidsparish.org

January Financial Snapshot

Pledge income was strong in January and expenses were below budget.  We are starting off the year in a positive financial position thanks to the faithful support of our congregation and the excellent financial management by our clergy and staff.

Gratefully,

Cathy Schwichtenberg, Treasurer

ICA Update

When donating to ICA during the MN FoodShare March Campaign, you are not only supporting ICA’s expanded programming, but also playing a big role in growing its purchasing power. Just like your family, it is costing ICA much more to buy fruits, vegetables and other essentials. A financial donation to ICA ensures the food shelves can be kept well-stocked, while food donations help bring in immediate supplies.  You can learn more and donate by visiting www.icafoodshelf.org/march-campaign.   Thank you in advance.

A note received from a neighbor who has benefited from ICA’s services: “Thank you to all the people who donate and volunteer at ICA! You made it possible for me to receive food and assistance at a time when I lost my job.”

Book Club Update

The St. David’s Book Club met on February 7 to discuss Love is the Way by Bishop Michael Curry.  This was an easy read and I encourage everyone to read this book.  Bishop Curry’s writing style is so approachable and he uses examples from his own life to share more about himself and, more importantly, how Love is the Way to a fulfilling life.

Our upcoming selection to be discussed in April is The Good Earth

It is a historical fiction novel by Pearl S. Buck published in 1931 that dramatizes family life in a Chinese village in the early 20th century. It was the best-selling novel in the United States in both 1931 and 1932, won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1932, and was influential in Buck's winning the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1938. Buck, who grew up in China as the daughter of American missionaries, wrote the book while living in China and drew on her first-hand observation of Chinese village life.  ~Wikipedia

Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative

We got the news we've been waiting for: the Bring it Home, Minnesota bill will have a hearing in the Senate on Thursday, March 16 at 12:30 p.m.! There is a lot of growing momentum to pass Bring it Home, Minnesota this year, and we want to demonstrate that energy at this hearing.

Join us at the hearing! Click here to register to attend in person or online.

The bill, SF11, is authored by Senator Zaynab Mohamed, who will present the bill during this hearing. She will be followed by several testimonies in support of the bill.

How do we demonstrate strong support for this transformational legislation? By showing up! Having a hearing room full of people shows a bill has energy - let's make sure legislators see that energy for Bring it Home, Minnesota! Please attend in person if you can. An online option to participate is also available.

We have an unprecedented chance to pass Bring it Home, Minnesota this year. House and Senate leadership are committed to passing it this year. We're right in the thick of it - let's keep pushing and keep raising our voices!

Now is the time to show up and make this happen! Register now for the Senate hearing on Thursday, March 16, and I look forward to seeing you at the Capitol soon!

Thanks,

  ~ Maeve

Maeve Olson, Lead Campaign Organizer

p.s. Some of you may have gotten other emails indicating a different date for the Senate hearing. Those dates are inaccurate: we've CONFIRMED for Thursday, March 16!

p.p.s. Since you're registering for important things, can you take a moment to register for the Bring it Home, Minnesota Rally happening on March 20?!
