Worship This Sunday

8:00 and 9:30 Holy Eucharist

No Children's Time

Community Forum, 10:45-11:30, Learning from London

The Rev. Katherine Lewis will share her experiences learning about faithful innovation that is being seen across London and can help inspire our own faithfulness. Loving God. Loving One Another.

We will continue to Facebook Livestream the Sunday 9:30 service and upload to YouTube to accommodate for those who choose to stay home.

This Sunday you will notice a new setup for the choir. We are going to experiment with moving the choir off the risers and closer to the congregation. The main goal is to feel more like the choir and congregation are all singing together as one group. It will also aid in accessibility for the choir, and will allow all of the musicians to see and hear each other more easily.

St. David’s Giving Campaign Update

Our annual Giving Campaign kicked off on Sunday, October 9. The campaign will run from October 9 through November 6 when we will celebrate the end of the campaign and All Saints Day.  The theme this year is “More Than Enough” which is based on the lesson of the loaves and fishes as recounted in Luke 9:12-17.  The campaign theme fits closely with St. David’s long-standing culture of giving.

At the kickoff, we reviewed St. David’s Mission, Statement of Welcome, and St. David’s Vision #4:

St. David’s has a firm financial foundation, for ministries now and for generations to come. Like Jesus, we serve from a spiritual place of abundance rather than of scarcity.

We reviewed our goals for the campaign:

·      100% participation from all who received a giving packet.

·      Total pledges for 2022: $375,000

·      Prayers for a successful campaign.

During coffee hour on Sunday, October 16, we decorated loaves and fishes clipart which will be displayed in the Sanctuary on Sunday, Nov.6.  We will have the supplies available at Coffee Hour after 9:30 worship on Oct. 23 and 39 as well as some to take home after both the 8:00 am and 9:30 am services.

As of Wednesday, 10/19, fourteen families have pledged $88,000 at an average of $6,285 per pledge.  Thanks to all for your faithful support of St. David’s and your prayers for a successful giving campaign.

September Financial Snapshot

September Income was 60% higher than budget thanks to an increase in Pledge Income, Loose Plate offerings, Building Rental Income, and a successful Fall Fundraiser.  Year-to-Date Income is over 16% higher than budget.

St. David’s clergy and staff continue to do an excellent job of managing expenses.  Through September, Year-to-Date Expenses are running 4% below budget.

Our Year-to-Date Net Income is well above budget, especially compared to our budgeted Net Income through September.  It is too early to say that we will end the year with a surplus because our projected expenses over the next 3 months is higher than our projected income; but we are in a solid position going into the fourth quarter of the year.

Thank you for your generosity and faithful support of the parish.

Gratefully,

Cathy Schwichtenberg, Treasurer

All Saints Day

All Saints' Sunday--November 6--One Service at 9:30

Lord of heaven's reach, of earth reborn; you call us from starless graves to sing under infinite skies: we praise your name for those who have walked this way unheralded and unnumbered but known to you, their beginning, their end, their joy in life; give us the same grace to be unbound and take the step of faith; through Jesus Christ, the alpha and the omega. Amen.

Prayers for an Inclusive Church, by Steven Shakespeare

We will celebrate all the saints on Sunday, November 6 with special music in the All Saints' Columbarium Chapel, where we will display photos of St. David's members who have died within the past year. We will read the necrology—the names of all those we love and remember who are no longer with us. Please add the names you wish to be included by signing the book in the narthex or by emailing Anna Brock at office@stdavidsparish.org. We hope you will join us for this special day.

October Vestry Update

Your Vestry met on Monday evening, 10/17.  We opened the meeting with a reflection and discussion on an article about engaging in prayer.  The document we read and discussed talked about taking time and making space in our lives for prayer.   There were many other good points discussed.  If you would like to see the article, it is on the internet at Reflection: Pray – SSJE .

We had a discussion about video streaming our Sunday service on Facebook and uploading to YouTube.  It was decided that it would be a good idea to do a survey to understand the value of these efforts.  Please look for a survey coming soon that will be asking for your input and thoughts on this topic.

The Giving Campaign and the current financial status of St. David’s was discussed.  Additional information on these topics is in other parts of this communication.

The Endowment Committee provided a report to the Vestry on the status of the funds and the process for distributions.

Please feel free to reach out to me or others on the Vestry if you have any questions about our meetings or the state of St. David’s.  If you have any items you would like the Vestry to discuss or consider, let me know.  My Email is RSchwichtenberg@stdavidsparish.org .
