ICA Update

Now that we are into October, there will only be two more outdoor produce markets offered, including one this Saturday the 8th. If you know anyone who may be experiencing some food insecurity, please let them know about Saturday’s market offering a variety of vegetables and fruits. No appointment is needed. The market is located at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 755 Minnetonka Mills Road in Hopkins between 10 am and 12 noon.

ICA Expanding Services into More Local Schools

The ICA in partnership with the Hopkins School District has opened a third school-based market and resource center at West Junior High. This follows one which opened at Gatewood Elementary last year and a second one that opened earlier this year at Alice Smith Elementary.

ICA will deliver a variety of food on a weekly basis, including culturally specific fresh produce, dairy, grains as well as shelf-stable items. Multilingual family liaison workers will also be onsite to better learn about student/family specific needs and share information about other nearby resources. The Market and Resource Center at West will be open two days a week.

West Junior High Principal Leanne Kampfe said “ I think it’s important that we make sure we’re meeting all the needs of our students …… When you’re hungry, you can’t concentrate and when you can’t concentrate, you can’t learn. ……We’re just so grateful to ICA for partnering with us.”

Chili Cookoff Report

The recent Community Chili Cook-Off was a huge success! The event raise nearly $2500 for ICA and almost 450 pounds of food and household items were donated. Every donation goes a long way to providing stability for our neighbors.
