Ministry Fair this Sunday! | |
|
We will be continuing Kick-Off Month this Sunday with a Ministry Fair after the 9:30 Service. Please join us to learn more about St. David's many ministries through stories. Consider the indicators of discernment (joy, energy, persistence, convergence, fruit-fullness, and God's Peace) that we learned about in last week's World Cafe as you reflect on what ministries you might want to get involved in this year. (And come, even if you missed last week's session!). We will be handing out Program Guides and Ministry Sign-Up cards that you will be able invited to fill out and turn in on Sunday October 2nd.

Monthly Pledge Income has been somewhat less than planned from March through August. This can be attributed to a significant early payment of pledges in January and February. Year-to-Date, Pledge Income is slightly higher than planned; but to attain our year-end pledge income goal of $355,000, we need to receive nearly $25,000 per month from September through December. If you are behind on your pledge, please make a plan to catch up before year-end.
Other income has been higher than planned due to some special donations, increased building rental over the Summer as well as proceeds from the sale of raffle tickets.
Due to careful management by the Clergy and Staff, Year-to-Date Expenses continue to run lower than planned.
Thank you for your continued financial support of St. David’s.
Gratefully,
Cathy Schwichtenberg, Treasurer

Outdoor Produce Market this Saturday
As we get into fall, there will only be a few more outdoor produce markets including one this Saturday, September 24. If you know anyone who may be experiencing some food insecurity, please let them know about Saturday’s market. There is always a nice variety of fresh vegetables and fruits available at no cost. No appointment is needed. The market is located at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 725 Minnetonka Mills Road in Hopkins between 10 am and 12 noon.
Empty Water Bottles Needed
Do you usually put your empty water bottles into the recycling bin? There is another way you can recycle them that would be greatly appreciated. ICA is need of empty water bottles (not crushed) with caps. The bottles are used for laundry and dish soap given to Food Shelf clients.
If you have any water bottles, please bring them to the K-Tel ICA site during regular donation hours: Mondays 10 am - 6:30 pm, Tuesdays 10 am - 3:30 pm, Wednesdays 9 am -3:30 pm, Thursdays 10 am - 3:30 pm, Friday’s 10 am - 12 noon. If you prefer, you can leave your water bottles in a bag in one of the ICA baskets at the south and east church entrances.

For $5, attendees can taste chili from five participating teams and cast a ballot for their favorites. Donations of non-perishable foods, other ICA-needed items or cash will also be welcome.
The event, which will be held at Faith Church, 12007 Excelsior Boulevard, Minnetonka from 11 am to 2 pm, will also feature:
* Chili, refreshments and treats for sale with all proceeds benefitting ICA
* Live music, games
* Police squad and fire truck displays
* Visits by Scruff McGruff and Sparky the fire dog
Consider stopping by. It would be a fun way to spend a few hours with family and friends 😊.
The Great Taste Scheduled for October 13
Mark your calendars for the annual Great Taste which will finally be back in person this year. Watch for more details in upcoming Weekly Updates.
ICA is Connecting with New Ukrainian Neighbors
In addition to servicing more families overall in the surrounding communities, ICA is seeing a steady increase in the number of refugee families coming to our area and reaching out regarding various resources. Specifically, many of those families that have recently settled in the Twin Cities metro area are coming from Ukraine.
Through a partnership with the Ukrainian American Community Center, ICA is now producing and distributing informational materials to Ukrainian refugee families in their native language. This is part of a larger ongoing effort to streamline communications with the significant population of refugees that utilize ICA services.
In addition to producing multilingual marketing materials, ICA has announced it is in the process of bringing on a Ukrainian interpreter volunteer. That means ICA now offers weekly, in-person interpreter services in Russian, Ukrainian, Spanish and Somali. This is in addition to multilingual translation services offered over the phone to those looking to set up an appointment or access resources.
ICA is always looking to expand its language services. Are you or someone you know fluent in another language and interested in volunteering on a regular basis? If so, send an email to rebecca@icafoodshelf.org.

We're baaack! The St. David's Bible Study group will resume our learning and discussion meetings beginning Tuesday, 9/27. Except for 10/4, we will continue to meet weekly via Zoom each Tuesday at 11:00AM. The Zoom link can be found on the website or here: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87274672774
To begin the new season, we're pleased to welcome the Rev. Basil Owen who will lead us in reading and studying the Book of Revelation. He suggested first reading it in a contemporary version of the Bible such as The Message or Good News, and then using your preferred version for the study. But please don't take this as a requirement to join the club! The idea is to get a flavor of all the different ways to interpret this sometimes challenging material. If any of you have ever heard Basil preach or lead a discussion, you'll know that this will be a fun and exciting experience!
In order to share this learning with others who can't attend real-time, we're going to try recording the Zoom meetings for the first month. Along the way we'll evaluate how it's going and if there is any negative impact on the discussion. Feel free to join the Zoom or watch it later on YouTube at your convenience. Please contact Sharon Engel if you have any questions.
