St. David’s Giving Campaign: Kickoff Recap
|
|
Our annual Giving Campaign kicked off on Sunday, October 3 at the Adult Forum after 9:30 worship. Our program included a review of St. David’s Mission, Statement of Welcome and our Vision statements. We focused more deeply on Vision #4:
St. David’s has a firm financial foundation, for ministries now and for generations to come. Like Jesus, we serve from a spiritual place of abundance rather than of scarcity.
“They are like trees planted by streams of water,
which yield their fruit in its season, and their leaves do not wither.
In all that they do, they prosper.” Psalm 1:3
Next was a brief update on our solid and gratifying year-to-date financial status and then we heard an inspirational message from Holly Lamond who spoke to us via Zoom. Holly shared her experiences as the Chair of the HR Committee and the discernment the committee has undertaken to build and develop our staff. Despite her move to Grand Marais, Holly is still an engaged member of St. David’s and shared a message of love for our community and encouragement to all of us to support this year’s campaign.
Thank you, Holly!
We reviewed our goals for the campaign:
· 100% participation from all who received a giving packet.
· Pledges totaling to $400,000 primarily to support additions to staff and to achieve a balanced budget.
· Prayers for a successful campaign.
And then we had some fun!
Huldah Niles sourced St. David’s coffee mugs with our new logo and she hosted a drawing for 10 mugs. We will do a drawing for 10-15 mugs at the Adult Forum each Sunday between 10/3 and 11/7 after 9:30 worship. You must be present to win and the limit is one mug per family.
We made tissue paper butterflies which will be flying in the sanctuary on All Saints Day on 11/7! Supplies will be available in the undercroft on Sundays. You may make butterflies during the Forum or take supplies home and bring the butterflies back before 11/7.
In upcoming weeks you will hear parishioner’s testimonials at the Offertory and at the mug drawing during the Adult Forum. On Sunday, October 10 we will hear from Laura Hensley and Susan Taylor.
Thanks to all for your faithful support of St. David’s and for your prayers for a successful giving campaign.

Bishop Visit and Confirmation Service
|
|
A message from Bishop Loya's Facebook Page:
|
"I didn’t manage to get any pictures, but golly it was an amazing night at St. David's in Minnetonka. This is an unbelievably joyful and vital congregation that loves each other well, is deeply committed to the work of racial healing, and, since March of 2020, has gathered to say Compline together on Zoom every night (every night!). Leading that faithful group in that office tonight, after confirmations and a wonderful town hall conversation, was among the most moving moments I’ve had as a bishop. So grateful for the care and faithfulness of that community."

Volunteers Needed for St. David's Youth Ministries
|
|
As someone who has worked closely with our St. David youth over many years, I’ll be the first to say that we have the most amazing young people in our midst. Some of my deepest and most spiritually enriching relationships at church were born during my time in youth ministry. Please consider this opportunity… not only for what it will do to support our youth, but for what it might mean for your own faith journey. Prepare to be challenged, surprised, encouraged and most importantly… to plant the seeds for life long friendships.
We are looking to build a team of youth volunteers to support our new youth minister, Anna, and our High School and Middle School youth groups. Whether you are available once a month or weekly, we need you! Our High School group meets on Sunday evenings (6:00-8:00) and our Middle School group on Wednesday evenings (6:45-8:15). Please email Anna with questions or interest/availability at abrock@stdavidsparish.org.
Thank you for loving our children so well!

Join the fun while supporting our neighbors and learning more about the impact being made every day by incredible people like you. All funds raised go back into the community to provide food, homelessness prevention services, employment support and resources and referrals to those in need.

ICA’s Employment Services
Because lack of employment or “underemployment” are the biggest reasons people use the food shelf, it makes sense to tie in the ICA’s food program in providing services. As families encounter new challenges and emergencies, the ICA employment consultant and the ICA team work to address each person’s unique needs. Whether they are unemployed, “underemployed” or looking to make a career change, the ICA employment program offers resume building, job search tools, online application assistance, interview practice and more.
While some clients may just need brief encouragement and support, others may need help several times over a period of years. There is no limit to the number of times a client can meet with the employment consultant. Your support helps ICA to continue building its employment program and maintain the needs of those seeking assistance.
Current ICA Needs
We will be collecting items for ICA through Sunday, October 17. Please leave your donations in the ICA baskets located at the east and south entrances. Current ICA needs include:
* kids’ snacks & beverages
* paper products (tissues, napkins, toilet paper)
* personal products (shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, toothpaste, adult diapers)
Of course, any other items you would like to give will always be appreciated.

Looking for Additional Ushers
|
|
Because it has been nearly a year and a half since St. David’s has operated in the “normal” way, we have to re-build our lay service teams almost from scratch, so we are looking for fresh volunteers for ushering. We need a gaggle of ushers in our team so that we can schedule each of them no more often than about once a month.
Ushering is an easy and fun ministry because it mainly consists of making people feel welcome and at home at St. David’s, and our parishioners are naturals at that. It is a great ministry that families can do together, if they want. Once we have a group of volunteers we will do a short training course so that all of the new and old ushers are on the same page with respect to the simple choreography of the service.
Please let me know if you have any interest in helping with this important but fun ministry at St. David’s and I will explain the details and answer your questions.
Thanks,
Steve Johnson

In this time of the coronavirus pandemic, the need to reach our most vulnerable parishioners has been great. Our 11 person Pastoral Care Team has stepped up to the plate and has been regularly calling around 24 St. David's members and families to share in remote fellowship, prayer, and conversation to determine if we, as a community, could help address any of their unmet needs. We are pleased to report that virtually all of these parishioners are doing well so far and have their basic needs met by their facilities and/or family. They are in good spirits and continue to remain resilient in the face of isolation and uncertainty.
If you find yourself in need of food or other resources, please contact:
or:
and we will assist you in finding solutions.

To add someone to the prayers, please contact the office: office@stdavidsparish.org
We will include all individuals in the prayers list for four consecutive weeks, and then they will be removed from the list. If the prayer need is ongoing, please reach out and we will keep their names on the list. If anyone's prayer need is shorter than four weeks, please also note that. This way we will keep all prayer lists updated and recent.
