Her topic for the weekend will be We Have Seen His Glory: Encountering Jesus in the Fourth Gospel. Dean Kittredge will retire from Seminary of the Southwest this June.

Gabriel Santiago is a Brazil-born jazz composer, arranger, and guitarist. JazzTimes magazine called him "a young master at both the acoustic and electric guitars." He has recorded 14 albums and holds a PhD in Music Composition from UT Austin where he won awards in jazz studies.


This will be a peak evening of Brazilian jazz!

At the 2024 Annual Meeting, we elected vestry members Matt Carlberg, Meg Erskine, Bunny Neible, Dan Salter, and JC Sanders. Thomas G. (Tom) Gebhard, Jr. and Joy Harris Philpott were elected Diocesan Council Delegates. See the full meeting notes, presentation, and 2023 Annual Report.


Father Chuck introduced the 2024 Year of Discernment, which will include a Lenten lecture series and a book study on Discernment by Henri Nouwen.

VOLUNTEER FOR ASHES TO GO

On Ash Wednesday, we seek to take God's message out onto the streets of Austin and share it with those who may not otherwise go to church on this day.


Volunteers are needed at 6th and Congress Ave. for 1.5-hour shifts. Training will be provided. Please contact the Rev. Angela Cortiñas to participate.


FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT

Due to the Austin Marathon, we will have one all-parish service at 4:30 p.m. on the First Sunday of Lent in lieu of our usual 8, 9, and 11:15 a.m. worship schedule.


Following the service, come to Sumners Hall for a parish dinner with Lenten formation for all ages.

The Grants Committee for Community Outreach (GCCO) is a subcommittee of the Vestry of St. David’s Episcopal Church.

APPLICATIONS OPEN FEB. 5 FOR COMMUNITY GRANTS

St. David’s Episcopal Church has a long history of – and deep commitment to – helping people in need in the Austin community. As part of these ongoing efforts, St. David’s distributes annual grants of $10,000 to support non-profit organizations that serve those in need and disadvantaged populations in Austin and Travis County.


St. David’s Grants Committee for Community Outreach (GCCO) is accepting grant applications from Feb. 5 to March 8 at 5 p.m.

MINISTRY HIGHLIGHT: LAUNDRY LOVE

Volunteers meet at SpinZone on South Congress on the last Thursday of the month to provide laundry cards and supplies to our neighbors in need, followed by a meal of pizza and dessert.


In 2023, Laundry Love supported our neighbors by providing more than 1,000 meals and 960 laundry supply packets that included laundry cards, detergent, and dryer sheets, enabling Austinites to do 4,800 loads of laundry.

EVERYTHING IS SACRED WITH JOHN PHILIP NEWELL

St. David’s is a proud sponsor of a two-day event featuring Celtic scholar and writer John Philip Newell. The event will feature a lecture on the evening of Wednesday, May 15, and a half-day retreat on Thursday, May 16.


Building on the theme Everything is Sacred, John Philip Newell will share Celtic wisdom to direct our effort toward a healthier planet and reawakened soul. Cami Twilling, director of Earth & Soul, will invite us into a soul-nourishing spiritual practice.
