St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish
Bringing People Into A Growing Relationship With Jesus Christ
|
|
This weekend we celebrate All Saints Day. The saints teach us that sharing our God-given gifts of time, talent and treasure are at the heart of the Christian life. Their relationship with Christ grew because they not only shared their gifts with their community, but they shared them well - to the best of their ability. As we long to see God’s face in our lives and be counted in that “great multitude who are with God forever," God is calling us to grow in our relationship with Jesus Christ. That growth calls us to share the gifts that God has given us with others.

Serve as a Mass Minister
Now that we've added a Saturday Mass, and with our older ministers stepping back from serving due to their higher risk of contracting Covid-19, we are seeing a shortage in Mass ministers.
We would appreciate if you signed up to serve! Click the link below to see what roles need to be filled for the next few weeks.

Financial Update
When the pandemic hit, many churches saw a sharp decline in giving, due to their doors being shut. While we saw a decline at St. E's, this fiscal year we are at 90% of our budgeted giving income. That is thanks to you choosing to share your treasure and updating your giving preference to be electronic! Giving electronically through EFT, automatic bill pay through your bank, stock share transfers, and our Give Plus option ensures your giving happens, even if you can't join us physically at Mass.
When you give financially to St. E's, you ensure our building stays open, our staff gets paid, Catholic schools, religious education and faith formation programs are funded, and organizations with immediate needs are supported.
Take a look at your personal calendar and bank statement - they can be powerful witnesses to your commitment to serving God and your neighbor.

Social Justice Donations
Giving to St. E's shows our reliance on God. Your gifts are used to further our shared mission of bringing people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. Did you know that 5% of our parish income is distributed to non-profit organizations? The Social Justice Commission determines which organizations receive your donations. During the last fiscal quarter, including July, August and September, the following organizations were recipients of that tithe:
|
|
|
- Foundation 2 - $2500
- St Vincent de Paul - $4000
- SEAS Knights of Columbus - $3500
- Prairiewoods - $2000
- Bridgehaven - $1000
- Derecho Relief - $1900 (equally to HACAP, CMC, Willis Dady Homeless Shelter, Heritage Agency on Aging, Free Clinic)
Camp Courageous will be the recipient of the Coins Collection for this Quarter (Oct, Nov, Dec.)
|
|
In fiscal year 2020-2021, we will give over $91,000 to projects and organizations in our community as well as our sister parish in Nicaragua!
Organizations our parish will support through our Social Justice Commission are:

Using Your IRA to Contribute to Our Faith STO, your Parish or Catholic School.
If you are 70 ½ or older, in most years you are required to take a minimum distribution from your IRA, whether you need the income or not. This year, you aren’t required to take a required minimum distribution, but may still take one for charitable giving purposes, if you wish. If you are in this situation, you can gift that IRA distribution to the Our Faith School Tuition Organization (STO) and receive a 65% Iowa tax credit in return. It’s a win-win for everyone. This IRA distribution must be given directly to the STO to avoid federal income taxes. You may also give to your parish or Catholic school through your IRA too! To learn more visit www.ourfaithsto.org, call the parish or school office or call the Archdiocese of Dubuque at 800-876-3546 ext. 219. You may print out your contribution form here.

Xavier Impact Fund Phone Calls Underway!
Our mighty Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton volunteers are keeping their social distance by making phone calls to parishioners from the safety of their homes through November 15th to ask for financial support of the Xavier Impact Fund (XIF) (formerly called parish appeal). Gifts to the Xavier Impact Fund are tax deductible and make an impact on family financial assistance, teacher endowment, and faith/academic advancement at Xavier High School. Please check with your financial advisor to see if you might leverage any tax benefits from the 2020 Cares Act. Plus, if we meet our XIF Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton goal of $90,500, every dollar raised after will go back to the parish to be used for whatever the greatest need might be!
Gifts may be made via phone at 319-378-4571, by mailing your gift to Xavier Foundation, PO Box 10956, Cedar Rapids, IA, 52410 or by visiting www.XavierSaints.org/Impact today. Thank you for your prayerful and financial support!

Offertory Envelope Updates
At St. E's, we want to be good stewards of our finances. Therefore, we are planning to cut some costs by not sending offertory envelopes to individuals who have not submitted an envelope in the last 3 years. If you'd like to be added or removed from the offertory envelope mailing list, please let Mary Lang know by emailing her at: [email protected].
