Where Do We Go This Week?

Our Church School classes will meet at 9:30 am upstairs and our lesson will be "Be Humble" based on our Gospel reading of Matthew 23:1-12. It is also All Saints Day so we will be discussing how we remember all the generations of people God loves.

Parents will drop their children off at their classrooms at 9:30 am. Current classrooms and class volunteers are as follows:

PreK-1st Grade (next to nursery) - Deanna Hoffman, Lauren Winter, AJ Lorenz (Teen)

2nd- 4th Grade (across from nursery) - Melissa von Summer, Stacy Wilson, Heather Nobles, Evelyn Kern (Teen)

5th-8th Grades (1st class across from Conference Room) - Matt Botbyl, Sheryl Jordan

,The church school classes will go to Children's Chapel following their class, and will join their parents in "big church" before the Offertory.

Class leaders are still needed, so please consider growing in faith along side your children. All materials and lessons are provided. Church School will not happen without leaders for classes. Please check the sign up for available dates. You don't have to volunteer in your child's class.

2026-2027 Registration is ONLINE!

Nursery

We know that sitting in church can be challenging for some of our youngest kids. Children are joyful reminders that God is in our midst and are always welcome in worship. They belong right here among God's people. We have "pew bags" outside the Narthex with quiet activities for young children to interact with during the service but if you feel the need to step out with your child, our nursery is open on the second floor for babies through age 3 when we have Church School.

Our Attendant this Sunday is Akshara P

The Blessing Shelf

Please bring shelf stable food pantry donations for several local organizations during this month's donation drive for the Blessing Shelf. Traditionally, this time of year our Teen Outreach program conducts a food drive that provides donations to Ridgewood Social Services, Emmanuel Cancer Foundation, and New Hope Ministries and the Blessing Shelf donations for this cycle will support those efforts.

Children's Chapel

This week's Chapel story is "I'm the Best" by Lucy Cousins which relates to the themes of our Church School lesson on Matthew 23:1-12.

In the story, Dog was faster than Mole, bigger than Ladybug, and better at digging than Goose. He thought that wearing the imaginary "Number One" crown made him the most important animal in the yard. But Dog was so busy looking at his own crown that he couldn't see how special his friends were.

In our Bible story for Sunday's class, Jesus was talking about some grown-ups who acted just like Dog. They were religious leaders called Pharisees. They loved to wear the fanciest clothes, take the absolute best seats at dinner parties, and have everyone shout, "Wow, look how important they are!"

But Jesus looked at them and said, "You’ve got it all backward."

Jesus teaches us about an "Upside-Down Kingdom". In the world, people think being the greatest means standing on top of everyone else, like Dog on his hill. But Jesus says in God’s kingdom, the greatest person is the one who steps down to help others. True greatness isn't about a crown; it's about a towel—being ready to serve, love, and lift up the people around us.

When Dog’s friends showed him that they were good at things too, Dog's pride popped like a balloon. He cried! He thought because he wasn't "the best" at everything, he wasn't loved. But his friends did something beautiful. They didn't tease him. They practiced what Jesus talked about. They humbled themselves, gathered around Dog, and lifted him up. They said, "Dog, you don't have to be better than us to be important to us. You are the best at being our friend."

God gave every single one of us an amazing talent. Some are fast runners. Some are great artists. Some are wonderful sharers. Humility doesn't mean pretending you aren't good at things. Humility just means making sure we use our talents to lift others up, instead of pushing them down.

Let's take off our bragging crowns and look for ways to be a helper. Because when we humble ourselves, just like Jesus said, that is when we are truly great.

Children through 7th Grade and their families are welcome in our Children's Chapel service following Church School.  If your child would like to read the story, serve as crucifer, or read our prayers please let us know!

Children's Bulletins

We have children's bulletins available at church to keep kids entertained in the pews. These are a great tool for home discussion with your kids about the lessons we heard on Sunday. Copies of our Children's Bulletins are available upon request for home use.
