Where Do We Go This Week?

Our Church School classes will meet at 9:30 am upstairs and our lesson will be "Ten Bridesmaids" based on our Gospel reading of Matthew 25:1-13. We're talking about being prepared. Specifically, Jesus tells his listeners a story in which there are two kinds of people - those who are ready, and those who aren't. What are we doing to be prepared for Jesus' return? Do we have to do anything other than wait?

Parents will drop their children off at their classrooms at 9:30 am. Current classrooms and class volunteers are as follows:

PreK-1st Grade (next to nursery) - Deanna Hoffman, Heather Nobles, AJ Lorenz (Teen)

2nd- 4th Grade (across from nursery) - Melissa von Summer, Stacy Wilson, Evelyn Kern (Teen)

5th-8th Grades (1st class across from Conference Room) - Matt Botbyl, Sheryl Jordan

,The church school classes will go to Children's Chapel following their class, and will join their parents in "big church" before the Offertory.

Class leaders are still needed, so please consider growing in faith along side your children. All materials and lessons are provided. Church School will not happen without leaders for classes. Please check the sign up for available dates. You don't have to volunteer in your child's class.

Nursery

We know that sitting in church can be challenging for some of our youngest kids. Children are joyful reminders that God is in our midst and are always welcome in worship. They belong right here among God's people. We have "pew bags" outside the Narthex with quiet activities for young children to interact with during the service but if you feel the need to step out with your child, our nursery is open on the second floor for babies through age 3 when we have Church School.

Our Attendant this Sunday is Akshara P

The Blessing Shelf

Please bring shelf stable food pantry donations for several local organizations during this month's donation drive for the Blessing Shelf. Traditionally, this time of year our Teen Outreach program conducts a food drive that provides donations to Ridgewood Social Services, Emmanuel Cancer Foundation, and New Hope Ministries and the Blessing Shelf donations for this cycle will support those efforts.

Children's Chapel

This week's Chapel story is "Scaredy Squirrel Has a Birthday Party" by Melanie Watt which relates to the themes of our Church School lesson on Matthew 25:1-13.

In "Scaredy Squirrel Has a Birthday Party", in typical Scaredy Squirrel fashion, he meticulously and overly prepares for his birthday. He wants to be ready for everything. And he nearly is, but even so, there are surprises. What he intended as a very small gathering ends up large, as more friends (“party animals”) show up at the party. At first, he panics, but then he comes to enjoy the larger gathering and his birthday, and begins to make even more extensive plans for next year. Scaredy Squirrel is both ready for his birthday, but also encounters surprises. In the parable of the bridesmaids, the primary difference between the wise bridesmaids and the foolish bridesmaids, is that the wise ones are “ready”. Like Scaredy Squirrel, they have prepared and gotten ready for the bridegroom to arrive. But, like Scaredy Squirrel, even though they are ready, surprises still arise—the bridegroom is much later than expected and their supplies have to last longer than they thought. The wise bridesmaids are both ready for the bridegroom but also encounter surprises. Like the wise bridesmaids, and Scaredy Squirrel, we need the balance of being both ready for Jesus and the reign of God, and realizing that even as we prepare, that we can’t know everything, and there will be surprises.

Children through 7th Grade and their families are welcome in our Children's Chapel service following Church School.  If your child would like to read the story, serve as crucifer, or read our prayers please let us know!

Children's Bulletins

We have children's bulletins available at church to keep kids entertained in the pews. These are a great tool for home discussion with your kids about the lessons we heard on Sunday. Copies of our Children's Bulletins are available upon request for home use.
