Father Jason's Week in Review

November 16: Worked on Sunday bulletins; worked on budget/goals for 2024; caught up on email.

November 17: Day off; packed for trip to Indiana

November 18 - 25: Flew from LAX to O’Hare, Chicago, rented a car and drove to North East Indiana, spent the week with my family - as the kids get older the visits get easier and more relaxing; spent Tuesday with Tom, going from comic book store to comic book store in search of Pokemon cards; Thanksgiving day was amazing! My brother-in-law smoked a turkey, and the first bite was worth the plane ride; after dinner we sat in the living room, laughing, talking, and enjoying each other’s company; the flight back was wonderful (as four hour flights go). Everyone was in bed by 8:00.

November 26: Sunday services - Christ the King Sunday; phone meeting with the Senior Warden.

November 27: Caught up on correspondence; spiritual direction.

November 28: Pastoral meeting; worked on the bulletin for an upcoming, destination wedding (Orange County!) for friends of friends; went to Taize, where it was wonderful being a participant in the pew.

November 29: Finalized wedding bulletin; strategic planning; went with the Junior Warden to meet with Bishop Taylor re: housing elements; began preliminary work on Christmas Pageant.

All families and parishioners are invited to our annual Advent Sunday Breakfast in the Parish Hall on Sunday, December 3 following the 10am service. We are having a potluck this year, so bring your favorite breakfast casserole to share! Savory or sweet dishes are welcome. We will provide fruit, coffee cake, and beverages. If you would like to provide a casserole, please email Kathy Compton at kathylcomp@gmail.com so we will know how many to expect. And, as always, you don’t have to bring a casserole to participate – everyone is welcome in fellowship!

We will also be making Advent Wreaths on this day so you may continue your celebration of the season in your home. Many of you have made wreaths in past years and may have foam or metal wreath rings in your garage or storage. In the spirit of reuse, we encourage you to bring your wreath rings, and any gently used candles, to create your arrangement this year. We will provide plenty of fresh greens, pipe cleaners, wire, and scissors. And if you don’t have a wreath ring at home, we will have extras to start your tradition!

Harbor Interfaith Services, Inc. (HIS) now plans to deliver over 350 complete holiday meals for Christmas. Donations from St. Francis can help to make the Christmas season brighter for families served by HIS. They ask specifically for Spiral hams, canned vegetables, mashed potatoes, stuffing or dressing mix, canned yams or sweet potatoes, cake mixes/frosting, and/or grocery gift cards.

Additionally, if anyone wants to donate toys for the children, they can be geared towards any age from 1 month to 18 years old. Many teens are often overlooked during the holidays. If you would like to contribute a gift certificate/card to stores, movie theaters, juice, or yogurt stores in the area, that can help a teen know they are not forgotten.

You should bring donations to church on Sundays or to the church office during office hours through Sunday, December 17 for delivery to HIS early on December 18. The food/presents will be distributed to the families on December 20.

Thank you, in advance, for your donations, and thank you for your donations to the Thanksgiving program. HIS was very appreciative of all the items donated!
