Forward Day by Day - Psalm 69:6

O God, you know my foolishness, and my faults are not hidden from you.

Every time we have a big family supper, the same thing happens. When it’s time to eat, the food is on the table, and everyone is sitting down. But my mother will stay on her feet, walking around the kitchen and scanning the counters, wondering aloud, “Are we missing anything?” “Yes,” we always cry. “We’re missing you!”

Martha understood that love incarnate had entered her home. She wanted to greet love with love, to greet Christ’s hospitality with more of the same. Yet, she was so intent on her vision of what it meant to welcome a guest that she couldn’t see the bigger picture. Sometimes in our desire to open our homes and our hearts, we end up with a wall of dishes between us. Our worries are powerful, even with the people we love the most. Often we try to show love through what we can do instead of by who we are. We forget that service can be the fruit of our love and not our fears about whether we are good enough.

Moving Forward: Slow down doing a familiar chore, or invite a loved one to help you.
Preparing for Sunday
St. Francis subscribes to a weekly service called Preparing for Sunday, which provides some brief commentary on the bible readings for the upcoming weeks. It can be found on the Sermons & Services page on the St. Francis website (https://tinyurl.com/sermonspage). I encourage all of you to consider looking at it prior to Sunday, particularly if you are a lector for the week.

Sunday School Update
We had a wonderful year teaching and learning in Sunday School this past year. We appreciated the dedication of our young people and their parents and grandparents! Sunday School is on summer break now, but we will begin again on September 11th. We would like to invite anybody interested in helping with the program to join us for a short meeting on Sunday, August 14, at 9:15 am.

New Ministry Opportunity – Sound System
We need several people to assist in running our sound system. When problems arise with our sound system, it usually falls on Jon Holland to respond to those problems. However, with his duties as Director of Music, Jon is not always available to respond quickly, if at all. We need several people to learn how to run the system and respond when problems arise. If you are interested in meeting this need, please speak to Jon, or email him at DrJonBHolland@gmail.com.
Women on Their Own
The Women On Their Own coffee meet-up on a weekly basis has ended as summer plans are keeping people busy with other activities. It was so enjoyable getting to know each other better over beverages and goodies at B’s Bakery. Thank you, Elisa Dale, for suggesting and facilitating these get-togethers!

Contemplative Prayer Group
The contemplative prayer group meets twice a month on Mondays at 2 pm in the Parish Hall library. We do Lectio Divina and sit for Centering Prayer, among other devotions. Our next meeting will be August 15th. If you are interested in silent prayer or contemplation and want to join the prayer group or ask for more information, please contact Lucia Jorge-Nebert (call or text: 971-341-2068, email: lnebert@yahoo.com) or Marcia Burdon (text only: 503-380-7820, email: mlburdon@hotmail.com).
Parish Outreach
REMINDER - Help to Clothe the Homeless in Brookings
Just a reminder that we will be collecting the following items in August to help St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church serve the homeless population in Brookings, Oregon:

*Warm winter clothing (all adult sizes, especially larger sizes)
*Sleeping bags
*Tarpaulins
*Blue jeans (sizes 28-40”)

Please save these items and bring them to the church starting on August 14th. They can be dropped off in the hallway just beyond the Information Center.

If you don’t have any of these items to donate, please consider making a monetary donation, which the Outreach Ministry will use to purchase additional items (put “St Timothy Outreach” in the memo line).

Many thanks in advance for your generosity!
If you have questions, contact Ann Frazier (annfrazier41@comcast.net or 503-657-0739).
Help for Ukraine
There are several ways that you can help the people of the Ukraine: Episcopal Relief and Development’s Ukraine Crisis Response Fund, https://www.episcopalrelief.org/product/ukraine-crisis-response/; St. Francis Outreach, which will also be making contributions to agencies providing humanitarian relief in the Ukraine; and local Oregon NGO MercyCorps’ Ukraine Crisis Fund, https://www.mercycorps.org/donate/crisis-ukraine-give-now?source=P2BWPMSTOPEZZ0303221&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=search&utm_campaign=MC_UKR_crisis&msclkid=c607275ecc181cda5490456da10babfb
Wilsonville Food Bank
They need peanut butter and storable fresh fruit such as apples and oranges. NO CEREAL, please. You can drop off your donations to the church. A volunteer takes the food to the Food Bank every Tuesday.
Thank you all for helping with this important need!
