Preparing for Sunday
St. Francis subscribes to a weekly service called Preparing for Sunday, which provides some brief commentary on the bible readings for the upcoming weeks. It can be found on the Sermons & Services page on the St. Francis website (https://tinyurl.com/sermonspage). I encourage all of you to consider looking at it prior to Sunday, particularly if you are a lector for the week.
Father Brendan

Prayer from St. Francis de Sales (1567-1622)

Be at peace. Do not fear the changes of life; rather, look to them with full hope as they arise. God, whose very own you are, will deliver you from them. He has kept you hitherto, and He will lead you safely through all things; and when you cannot stand it, He will bear you in His arms.

Do not fear what may happen tomorrow; the same God who cares for you today will take care of you then and every day. He will shield you from suffering, or give you unfailing strength to bear it. Be at peace, and put away all anxious thoughts and imaginings. Amen.

Pentecost Doves

One of the many traditions at St. Francis involves the making of origami doves, which are hung from the chandeliers in the nave for Pentecost.

The doves flying over us on Pentecost are an awesome and powerful sight, and a remembrance of how we are uplifted and comforted by the prayers of others.

Pentecost (Wear Red)

June 8 is Pentecost Sunday. Remember to wear red! Everybody is invited to join in the festive procession behind the Dove Kite, waving streamers, which will be provided. That morning's coffee hour will feature many red foods.

Prayer Chain

At St. Francis, we have a wonderful group of people who pray for others, whether they are in need or are celebrating. If you, or anyone you know, would like to have a concern or thanksgiving put on the prayer list, please let Deacon Ken know. He can be reached at kenrus60@gmail.com.

Adult Formation

Adult Formation in June will focus on faithful responses to tender topics: how we can respond with hope to global warming, with trust to Parish transitions, with compassion to LGBTQ+ people, with understanding to healing what’s wrong with us, with mercy to those with dementia. Come to the conference room at 9 am on Sundays for good company, decent coffee, learning, and sharing your understandings and concerns. There are always blessings and there are always good responses - let’s find them together.

Parish Outreach

William Temple House

Please continue to drop off your items in the boxes in the hallway; people receive help from William Temple House year round. From the webpage: “100% of the proceeds from the Thrift Store support the community services offered at William Temple House [including the provision of] food, counseling, clothing, and household items to Portland-area neighbors to strengthen our community.”

Wilsonville Food Bank

The food bank is in need of CANNED FRUIT, CEREAL, TOILET PAPER, and TISSUES. They DO NOT need peanut butter at this time. They also do not need rice or pasta, and cannot store fresh fruit. Do not put any type of fresh fruit in the cart. It goes bad before they can use it. Please put any donations in the cart in the Narthex. A volunteer takes the food to the Food Bank every Tuesday.
