Preparing for Sunday
St. Francis subscribes to a weekly service called Preparing for Sunday, which provides some brief commentary on the bible readings for the upcoming weeks. It can be found on the Sermons & Services page on the St. Francis website (https://tinyurl.com/sermonspage). I encourage all of you to consider looking at it prior to Sunday, particularly if you are a lector for the week.

Please wear your name tag to Coffee Hour so that we can get to know and see each other more fully.

Bell Choir

The St. Francis Ringers is a small but wonderful group of people who enjoy ringing handbells, and we would love to have you join us! We meet each week on Mondays at 10:30 am to rehearse, and we share our gift of music during Sunday worship about every other month. You do not need a lot of musical background although a good sense of rhythm is helpful. Please contact Wendy Shrumm at 208-871-3603 or wmshrumm@gmail.com if you are interested in joining. We are looking forward to welcoming you to our group!

Dinner Church

We will gather for Halloween Dinner Church on Sunday, October 27, at 4:00 pm, in the Parish Hall. Father Brendan will make the main dish and we will have a potluck for sides, salads, and desserts. There is a sign up sheet in the Information Center. We will have dinner, break bread, and celebrate the Eucharist.

Confirmation with Bishop Diana, December 22

Confirmation is a personal choice of commitment to God and the work of the church. It should be made with conversation, prayers, and good information, which are the purpose of preparation at St. Francis. If you are considering confirmation for yourself or someone you love, please contact Terri Hoffmann by October 20. We will order materials to have for participants. We will begin with an afternoon retreat on October 27 (noonish-2:30 with salad and pizza), and then meet at noon for about 60 minutes on November 10, 17, 24, and December 10. We will explore the Book of Common Prayer, the Apostles’ Creed, the Baptismal Covenant, plus whatever else comes up. Adults and kids are cordially invited!

Calling All Knitters

The weather is turning cooler, and a ball of yarn will feel good in your hands! It is time to begin knitting newborn baby hats for Salud Medical Clinic in Woodburn. These will be paired with little blankets made by Threads of Love Ministry and collected during our celebration on Epiphany Sunday, January 12th. We will need a lot of little hats to keep up with the busy people in this ministry, so we welcome all knitters!! Any pattern and any color would be wonderful! Some yarn and patterns are available in the Information Center. If you would like to learn to knit, or if you have any questions, please contact me.

Thank you.

Jane Domagalski

Adult Formation

Adult Formation in October will focus on the wisdom of David Brooks’ How to Know a Person. Join us for conversations about how we can best build deep relationships, be helpful to people suffering, see/feel/appreciate others’ emotions, really see others, and feel seen ourselves. There is no need to buy the book, but if you choose to read it (good choice!), look for it on sale. Adult formation usually begins at about 9am, but come when you can; we’ll have the coffee ready!

Taizé Prayer at St. Francis

For a time of prayer, reflection, and peace, please join us for Taizé prayers at the Cross of San Daminano. Come to the church at 5:00 pm for the service or 4:30 pm if you would like to sing through the chants prior to the service.

Our next Taizé Prayer service will be Sunday, November 3.

Did You Know? – Missal Stand

The Altar service book stand, or Missal Stand, can be made of metal or wood and is sometimes a pillow. The stand holds the Altar Service Book in a position so that the celebrant can easily read the Liturgy of the Holy Eucharist.

The wooden stand at St. Francis was made by Father William McIlmoyl, a good friend of Father Tony Petrotta. He is a gifted woodworker who designed and crafted this stand to match the wood of the Altar. This stand was the request of Dorothy Gray and family in memory of Claire, Dorothy's husband. Claire was a long-time member of St. Francis.

Ministry Prayers – Intercessors

Each week, in our Prayers of the People, we pray for a ministry here at St. Francis. This week, we pray for our Intercessors. Intercessors are members of the congregation who lead the congregation in reading the Prayers of the People.

Are you interested in joining this Ministry? Contact Peggy Danford for more information.

Parish Outreach

Update About St. Timothy, Brookings

Again, thank you so much to all of you for your generous donations of blue jeans, waterproof clothing, and tarps for the homeless in Brookings. We have many boxes to transport to St. Timothy’s the week of October 21th. This means that your last chance to drop donations off will be Sunday, October 20th. Susan Huffman and Paul Kyllo will be driving the many boxes of donations to Brookings. Thank you Susan and Paul! Questions: Contact Ann Frazier at annfrazier41@comcast.net.

William Temple House

Outreach is very pleased to announce that they are again receiving donations of clothing and household goods for William Temple House thrift store. The money raised by the store helps to fund the many social service outreach programs at WTH, which is in Northwest Portland. Donations can be dropped off in the hallway outside Jon Holland’s office. Questions? Contact Susan Huffman at huffmase@gmail.com or 503-804-4992.

Wilsonville Food Bank

The food bank is in need of CEREAL, TOILET PAPER, and TISSUES. They do NOT need peanut butter at this time. They also do not need fruit, rice, or pasta, and cannot store fresh fruit. Do not put any type of fresh fruit in the cart. It goes bad before they can use it. Please put any donations in the cart in the Narthex. A volunteer takes the food to the Food Bank every Tuesday.
