A recent conversation found me Googling “how to get to know someone.” The stark, unexpected list that popped up delighted me. “How to Get to Know Someone on a Deeper Level Without a Lot of Small Talk” perfectly describes how to get to know a high school, too. Beyond superlatives and statistics, here’s a list to keep in mind as you discern the right high school for your child: (The list is theirs; the insights are mine:)
- Ask genuine questions—questions with answers that make a difference for you
- Focus on questions that further a conversation—listen for clues, then follow up with questions that deepen real understanding
- Accept awkwardness—Embrace unexpected discoveries and use silent moments to take in info beyond the superficial
- Actively listen to answers—Pay attention once you ask a question
- Pay attention to responses—Recognize enthusiasm and details that back up a response. Reading between the lines is sometimes helpful
- Stay present—Stay with it, resisting distractions
- Be honest—It takes an open mind (and heart) to digest information and come to a deeper conclusion
Franciscan Virtues. Superior Blue Ribbon Academics. Microsoft Showcase Technology. Community life through a Franciscan lens. This is the authentic culture of St. Francis High School.
Joy, for example, is not a buzzword but a Franciscan virtue we practice at every turn of our day. When Blue Ribbon academics and Microsoft Showcase School technology combine with Franciscan virtues like compassion, simplicity, charity, and hospitality–well, it’s a high school experience that’s impossible to duplicate. Is St. Francis High School right for your child? Only you can decide, but it’s my job to assure you the words we use to describe our school are well-earned, deeply steeped, and rooted in measurable ways.
We welcome our incoming Spartan Class of 2028. We welcome Father Bob Barko, our new School Priest & Chaplain. We warmly welcome you and your child to visit and get to know us on a deeper level. If your seventh grader would like to shadow or your eighth grader needs an admissions consultation, please contact us. We can’t wait to get to know you, too.
