Welcome
“7th Graders Benefit from Spring Shadow Day”
|
The St. Francis High School campus bursts with natural beauty, and as spring attempts to bloom outside, students blossom all around us. Ninth graders are shedding the “freshman cocoon” and settling in as Spartans. Sophomores and juniors continue to flower in academic and personal pursuits. And seniors, ready to fly the nest, are perched in the glow of graduation and promise. St. Francis High School graduates extend an impressive wingspan. We receive so many notes about students who have earned success after taking root in our culture. These almost-spring days, St. Francis seniors are not only deciding among excellent college opportunities but also considering generous scholarships as a return on their SFHS investment. What a privilege to play this meaningful role in each SFHS student’s achievement and journey to adulthood.
We invite seventh graders to grow a bit here, too, with a Shadow Day to gently till their transition from middle school to the college prep journey. There are only a handful of days left for this school year – click here to register for April 12, April 19, or April 26. Parents agree this introductory visit allows students greater confidence and clarity when they shadow again as eighth graders. Did you know, we also welcome parents? If you’re curious about St. Francis or just haven’t seen inside a high school for a while, click here to register for a campus Talk & Tour. Parents of 6th, 7th, and 8th graders also may attend a Spring Coffee Information Session for Prospective Parents on April 25 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Register here.
Sincerely,
Maureen Isphording, Director of Admissions
P.S. Register here for SFHS Summer Camps! Check out the many options for your child to explore the arts, sports, and various academic subjects. We can’t wait to see you this summer.

THIS ISSUE’S FEATURE:
STUDENT INVOLVEMENT – ATHLETICS
|
SFHS ATHLETICS FOUNDATIONAL VALUES
St. Francis High School has partnered with the University of Notre Dame through the Play Like a Champion Today program. This character education program through sports initiative supports Catholic schools in promoting athletics as a ministry to youth and families, helps to build teams as moral communities, and supports character development, spiritual growth, intrinsic motivation, and responsible decision-making.
-
Development – Our aim is to help each student-athlete maximize his/her potential. We do this by setting individual and team goals and being organized and progressive in the process and sequence of instruction and development. We encourage student-athletes to step outside of their comfort zones and risk making mistakes during practice and training.
-
Strong Relationships – We focus on developing an environment where student-athletes know they can rely on one another and their coaches. Every student-athlete should feel that he or she is known and valued by coaches and teammates regardless of playing time or game statistics. The environment of each team should be built around care for one another both on and off the field/court.
-
Accountability – We hold student-athletes to a high standard of effort and conduct and insist things are done the right way. In the process, we understand that we need to show patience as we guide teenagers to learn from their mistakes and strive to live up to the high expectations that we have for them. These high expectations apply to the student-athletes' work on the fields and courts, as well as in the classroom and community.
-
Leadership – We believe that every student-athlete has the potential to be a leader in some capacity, and we focus on providing them with leadership opportunities that fit each personality and level of maturity. Leadership is not simply a position; it entails thought, word, and action. Some will lead with their energy and enthusiasm, some will lead with their words, and all should lead by their example.

The Student Perspective:
What do WINTER SPORTS at SFHS mean to you?
|
Ben C. ’24 – Wrestling
“Throughout this winter, I took on a new sport, Wrestling. I came to learn I found a profound love for this sport. It was a great activity to keep me in shape and help the winter go by fast. All in all, it was an honor to be part of this winter sport, and the memories I made will stay with me forever.”
|
Aaron C. ’24 – Boys Basketball
“Sports are a great opportunity to make friends and memories. It was great to be part of such a great team and be coached by such a great coach. I have truly enjoyed every basketball season since I was a freshman, and I look forward to my last season for my senior year.”
|
Katherine L. ’23 – Girls Basketball
“Throughout my basketball career at St. Francis, I have made great friends and learned how to be a better teammate and person. All the coaches have helped me be a better player, and I value all my basketball experiences and appreciate all the opportunities I have from them.”
|
Madison M. ’24 – Cheer
“Cheer at St. Francis is not just a team of girls going out to perform and compete but a family that goes out every day to support one another and push each other and be the best to our ability.”
|
Bella Z. ’23 – Dance
“Winter dance team is a special time of the year for me. It’s the most strenuous, yet rewarding, season of dance and getting the chance to perform at basketball games and compete at competitions every week gave me constant opportunities to be proud of my team. The bond that I have made with the girls is something special that will stay with me for years to come.”
