"I Am St. Francis"
The Captain Perspective: Five Questions for Basketball Captains Katie Anne D. ’22 and Jack B. ‘22
1. What school did you attend prior to SFHS? What co-curricular activities do you participate in? What are your plans for next year?
Katie Anne: The school I attended before St. Francis was Lisle Junior High School. I played basketball there. Next year I will be continuing my basketball career at Culver-Stockton University and study biology.
Jack: Before St. Francis, I attended St. Michael’s in Wheaton. I played basketball, football, volleyball, and ran cross country. I am undecided on where I am going to school next year; however, I am looking to study business.
2. How does SFHS encourage you to be successful both inside and outside of the classroom?
Katie Anne: SFHS encourages me to be successful both inside and outside of the classroom by encouraging me to get out of my comfort zone and try new things.
Jack: St. Francis has encouraged me to be successful both on the court and in the classroom. My teachers and coaches have been supportive throughout the entire season and are always there to help me. Whether it's staying after school to get extra math help or going over film, my coaches and teachers are always there for me.
3. Describe your relationship with faculty/staff/coaches.
Katie Anne: My relationship with my coaches and teachers is great. They all push me to do my best and they all want to see me succeed.
Jack: I like to think of Spartan Basketball as like a second family to me. The relationships I’ve built with my teammates and coaches will last longer than just the season and has really been one of the most important things to me.
4. In your opinion, what is the best thing about SFHS?
Katie Anne: The best thing about SFHs is the relationships you make with your classmates.
Jack: I think the best thing about St. Francis is the community and how close together everyone is. It really feels like every teacher and coach are there to help us grow as a student as well as an athlete. Because of St. Francis, I have built some friendships that will last me a lifetime.
5. What one word would you use to describe your feelings toward SFHS?
Katie Anne: Grateful.
Jack: Family.
