Parish Life

"If you can't feed a hundred people, then feed just one. " ~ Mother Teresa
"This was worst month of my life." Those words are still ringing in my ears two weeks later as I remember vividly the look on the mother's face as she spoke them to us. One month ago, her husband left her and their young children. He left without providing financial help to them as he was unemployed.
It was at this time that she called SVdP. We had met this mother at a hotel where they had been staying that week as she had nowhere else to go. In an effort to save money for an apartment deposit, she was working two part time jobs. She struggled finding childcare and went day to day begging friends and relatives to watch them so she could work. She was asking SVdP to help with a few days of her hotel charge while she waited for her paycheck. This young mother was trying her best at the worst time of her life and still coming up short. We took her information and told her we would try to get her request approved by the next morning. As we turned to leave, she proceeded to say "should we pack up our stuff to be ready to leave in the morning just in case you can't help us?" She was prepared to live out of her car with her young children if need be.
It is through your generosity that we were able to help this young mother. Your monetary donations provided temporary housing. Your food donations fed her children. Your prayers gave her hope. Thank you all for giving us the opportunity to help those in our community that reach out to us in their desperate time of need.

Attention everyone! Be sure to bring your $1 dollar bills to Mass the weekend of February 14-15. We'll be bringing in the next load of food to make it really easy for your family to donate a can to support the amazing work of our SVdP group. SVdP serves the needs of those struggling with difficult circumstances in our community. We will continue bringing in truckloads of food for you to donate every month thereafter and announce the dates in the bulletin. In the meantime please keep donating one can per family each week when you come to Mass. Look for the little red wagon or the collection box in La Salette Hall. As Mother Teresa once said, "If you can't feed a hundred people, then feed just one."
