Quote (Poem) of the Week. . .
Sent by Betsy Adams. . . so good

Percy (One)

Our new dog, named for the beloved poet,
Ate a book which unfortunately we had
        left unguarded.
Fortunately, it was the  Bhagavad Gita,
Of which many copies are available.
Every day now, as Percy grows
into the beauty of his life, we touch
his wild, curly head and say,

"oh, wisest of little dogs."

-Mary Oliver,  The Percy Poems, from  The Truro Bear and Other Adventures

Food for Thought. . .

This past week I participated in a training at King School regarding Gender.  A wonderful member of the organization, Gender Spectrum, walked faculty and staff through information regarding this subject and reflection on how the school can thoughtfully create a safer space for all children, particularly those who understand themselves in any number of non-binary ways.  One of the vignettes that the presenter offered was the video of Devina Keswani that is in the Link of the Week portion of this newsletter.  One part of Devina's story that is so compelling is her Kindergarten drawing of the elephant that is in a cage.  As the family relates it, they talk with her about the elephant, and Dev tells them that the elephant is not Dumbo.  Rather, the elephant is named Beautiful. Dev's mom asked her, "Who is Beautiful?" And the reply from Dev still brings chills, "I am Beautiful." To read more, click here. . .
Link of the Week. . .

A very powerful insight into how we know who we are at a very early age, and the importance of recognizing that we are all beautiful. . . .

For Further Reflection. . .

Bishop Ian Douglas's address to the recent Convention of the Episcopal Church in Connecticut.  There is a good deal of nuts and bolts information, and Bishop Douglas also abundantly sprinkles his speech with the substance of what our ministry and life together is about. . .
