Quote of the Week. . .
God reveals the essence of divinity to Moses: ehyeh asher ehyeh, most often translated as I AM what I AM [Exodus 3:14]. A more accurate Hebrew translation would be "I will be whatever I will be." In either case, the Hasidic understanding of the text is the same: God is all that is. God is all that is happening at every moment. God is I AM-not a being or even a supreme being, but Being itself. . . . [Each of us is] a keeper of the I AM; just
as a wave is a "keeper of" the ocean in its particular place and time,
so are you a  keeper of God in your particular place and time.
To realize this about yourself is to realize it about all beings.
                                                 -Rabbi Rami Shapiro

Food for Thought. . .
A compilation of the extemporaneous thoughts from last Sunday's sermon:
In preparation for a recent memorial service for Richard Liesching, I discovered that the he had been a very involved in the growth of rugby at Dartmouth College.  So much so that an award was created in his name. He arrived at Dartmouth from England in the mid 1950s, and he set to work almost immediately playing and coaching the rugby club.  One story that has lived on was his encounter with the Athletic Director at the time regarding support for the club. The AD reportedly barked that, "At Dartmouth, we play to WIN." Richard's reply was classic, "We play to have FUN, and in doing so WE WILL WIN."  To read more, click here. . .

A poignant encounter that reminds us all to pay attention to those "shoulder taps". . .

Practicing Doubt, Redrawing Faith
An older  On Being segment with Adam Gopnik.
Key quote:  and one of the things that's always, I think, emphasized by - whatever; people of faith or religious mystics - is that there can't be any true faith that isn't susceptible to enormous sieges of doubt. But I think in our time, those of us who grow up in doubt, who accept scientific skepticism as a foundational part of our worldview, also are drawn again and again to kinds of faith, to spiritual practice.
