St. Francis Weekly

August 27 - September 2, 2025

Embodying God's love by building community through worship, inclusivity, and outreach.

Hello, Friends of St Francis!

In a piece written by Diane Butler Bass, Click to read, scholars write of Jesus as a teacher and sage, full of wisdom, originality, and insight. He reimagined, challenged, and expanded the teachings rather than sticking with the status quo.

As a former educator, I remember August as being a time of excitement for the upcoming school year (new beginnings and reuniting with students and colleagues), nervousness (wondering what the new school year would bring), and dread (of the loss of freedom that summer provided). Hopefully, we have all been blessed with at least one favorite teacher or person who worked in a school. Someone who loved us unconditionally, believed in us, and pushed us outside of our comfort zone while giving us a safe place to land. We are blessed with teachers amongst us, such as Michele, Jane, and Rich, who selflessly give their time and energy to their students.

Students cannot learn without the proper supplies. We are so thankful that St. Francis parishioners generously donated $280 and 25 school supply kits for B1C families; this was over half of what was needed! Together with our interfaith partners, we collected money for backpacks and kits, enabling 53 students to start their school year with brand new supplies. As always, thank you for your generosity and kindness.

May this coming year be a time of learning and fulfillment for us all!

Fairgate Farm: Get to know our 2025 Miles for a Mission Partner

Fun Fairgate Farm Facts:

  • In July "the Farm hosted several groups of young learners for farm tours, educational activities and fun on the Farm. Students from the Boys and Girls Club of Stamford completed a 4 week program at the farm where they learned about growing and eating healthful foods. The program finished with a pizza party celebration. The kids had a blast walking around the farm and harvesting toppings for their pizza, and helping Farmer Pete put the ingredients together." (from Fairgate Farm newsletter)

Sheila says:

  • The Farm is open to volunteers and visitors Tuesdays 9-noon and 4-7 pm, Wednesdays 9-noon, and Thursdays and Saturday 8am-1 pm.
  • Join the Yoga on the Farm Classes at 11 am on Sept 6th, Sept 20th, and Oct 4th. All classes are free as part of the Farm's educational mission. The website provides more information: "Connect with nature around you as your yogi guides you through yoga stretches and restorative movement. All ages are welcome! Weather permitting, we will gather among the field rows on the farm. Chairs will be provided for mobility-limited folks. Yoga mats will also be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own!"
  • Join the Work and Learn: Saving Seeds Class on Sept 9 from 5-7 PM.
  • Click to register for classes

Sheila loves to educate people about the farm and has lots of great stories and information to share. Please ask her about it!
