Fr. Thomas M. Hamilton
June 5, 1953 - August 20, 2024

We continue to mourn the loss of our beloved pastor, Fr. Tom Hamilton. He died peacefully at Kaiser Hospital in South San Francisco on Tuesday, August 20, 2024. He was 71 years old.
Fr. Tom was ordained to the priesthood 36 years ago on December 10, 1988. He was incardinated into the Archdiocese on September 25, 2004. He served at Our Lady of Fatima Parish in San Francisco; St. Robert Parish in San Bruno; St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Novato; and St. Gabriel Parish in San Francisco since October 2008. He also served as the Grand Chaplain of the Young Ladies Institute (YLI) and Chaplain of the San Francisco Sheriff’s Office to Sheriff Paul Miyamoto.

Chris Ying '15 Receives Top UC Berkeley Award
Congratulations to St. Gabriel alumnus Christopher Ying '15 for being the 2024 recipient of the University Medal, UC Berkeley's top award for graduating seniors! He also addressed his graduating class on May 11 at the campus wide commencement.

From SG, Chris went onto Lowell High School and then to UC Berkeley where he had the opportunity to tutor incarcerated people at the former San Quentin State Prison. It was this experience that helped him solidify his passion for the law and helping society's most marginalized.
From double majoring in history and math, to mock trial and studying for the LSAT, Chris shares his great college experiences in this article by the UC Berkeley News.

Marianne Sullivan '70 to be inducted in San Francisco Sports Hall of Fame
Marianne Sullivan '70 began playing volleyball in 4th grade at SG and continued at Star of the Sea High School. During those combined 8 years of volleyball, Marianne remained undefeated!
She went on to play for the United States National team in 1973 and 1975-1976. Later this month Marianne will be inducted in the San Francisco Prep Hall of Fame.

Major General Robert L. Menist, Sr., U.S. Army (retired) died at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in San Francisco on September 29, 2022, after a lengthy battle with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). He was 79.

Kevin J. Kenneally was born in San Francisco and passed away at home which was his last wish, on April 29, 2021 at the age of 72 after a lengthy battle with multiple ailments. Each one of his conditions would have challenged anyone, but he bravely fought them all.

Philip Edward Murphy passed away September 9, 2021 at his home, of eight years, in Sebastopol, CA at the age of 65. He was born in San Francisco at St. Mary's Hospital on November 27, 1955 to Maurice and Alice Seibel Murphy - his mother complained of indigestion from the Thanksgiving Day meal!

Brian McCarthy ‘71

Brian died recently from complications of quadriplegia caused by a tragic bicycle accident over a year ago. He was 66. Brian was pre-deceased by his parents, Thomas and Anastasia, and his brother Christopher.

New Online Spirit Gear Store Now Open!
We have partnered with C & L Sporting Goods, a local vendor, to facilitate our new online store for all things SG Spirit Gear.
Our store will be "open" for two week periods four times a year, and will feature previous and new gear as the school year progresses.
The Store will be "OPEN" until Sunday, Sept. 15th, 2024. All items will be delivered to school for distribution about 3 weeks after 9/15/24.
