The people of St. George’s have so much
to celebrate and be thankful for in 2022.
We invite you to attend our Annual Meeting & Vestry Election this Sunday, January 29 at 10:05am in Legacy Hall as we reflect on the past year together and hold an election of this year’s vestry nominee slate: Patricia Haeberle, Will Newman, Breck Wheeler, and Greg Wilber. You can read about this year’s vestry nominee slate online here or pick up a printed copy of the brochure at the Annual Meeting.
Below, we share a number of vital statistics with our St. George’s community, but we hope you see more than just numbers. St. George’s is a growing parish, with a healthy financial picture, and a wonderful and supportive community of believers. Every member of this community contributes to the well-being of this parish, and we are grateful for you.

Our parish continues to grow in formal membership as new people are baptized, confirmed, received, and transfer in from other churches. This continues a years-long trend of growth for St. George’s.
Members Reported in 2021: 4,028
Total Increases: 128
Total Decreases: 65
Total Baptized Members in 2022: 4,091

As old families and new return to regular in-person worship following the pandemic, we see growing numbers of worshipers in our Sunday services. We closed 2022 with an average Sunday attendance of 707, an increase of 13% over the prior year.

St. George’s parishioners continue to support the parish through sacrificial financial giving. In 2022, 676 families pledged a total of $3,667,000 for our various ministries. The number of pledging families has grown over the prior year but still has not reach pre-pandemic levels. In addition, we continue to see growth in non-pledged giving, which totaled $1,162,000 in 2022. We are grateful to Catherine and Will Newman who chaired the 2022 Annual Campaign, encouraging us to flex our giving muscles and pledge with intention.

Our 2022 receipts totaled $4,829,000, including money received from pledges (76%), unpledged gifts, and endowment funds. We offer thanks to members of the Finance Committee who help ensure prayerful and responsible use of gifts made to the church: Bob Van Cleave (Treasurer), Jan Callen (Junior Warden), David Silvester, Jonathan Morphett, Jamie Cheek, Jim Ezzell, Richard Fitzgerald, Jennifer Hinds, Allison King, and Jennie McCabe. |
In 2019, we began the Living Our Legacy Capital Campaign to raise funds for new worship space in Legacy Hall, renovations to our Nave, a new church organ, additional parking, and improvements to our property. We received total commitments for $25,000,000. To date, the balance on our construction loan has been reduced to $2,550,000. Even though we continue to pay down our loan principal, our interest payments are increasing due to increases in rates throughout the market.

In 2022, St. George’s endowment received gifts from Betty Graham, Anne Parsons, and Jeannie and Bill Cammack. Their generous contribution, as well as all previous contributions, allows the endowment to serve the church in four broad categories:
-
Emergency Funding after a natural disaster or other crisis;
-
Building for St. George's Future with a leadership gift of $1,000,000 toward the Living Our Legacy campaign in 2020;
-
Investing in Ministry by attracting high-quality clergy and helping them secure housing in a competitive market; and
-
Supporting Annual Operations with a gift of approximately 3% of the fund's balance, which prevents a cash flow shortage during months when giving is low
Thanks to our Endowment Trustees for monitoring and making appropriate disbursements of these funds: The Rev. Malone Gilliam, David Moroney (Senior Warden), Frank Downey (Chair), Bill DeCamp, Eb LeMaster, Sally Nesbitt, and Ernie Williams.
Anyone may support St. George’s through a planned gift to the endowment. Please contact Laura Zabaski, Parish Administrative Officer, to learn more about giving through the Cornerstone Society. ([email protected] or 615-385-2150)
