Dear St. George-ans:

This Sunday, March 24, we will commission your Bishop's Committee (pictured above) at both the 8AM & 10AM services. You, the congregation, will be asked to present them for commissioning.

I ask your continued prayers for us all, not just for this week, but every day as we seek to discern and to follow God's will for St. George's, for all of us, loving each other and our neighbor as our selves.

Thanks & Blessings,

Rev Pat

Please welcome Diane Pound
Meet Diane, Our New Administrator/Ministry Liaison
Please give a warm St. George’s welcome to Diane Pound, our new church administrator. Her first day in the office was Monday, March 11. She comes to us from the Diocese of Massachusetts, where she served as the Executive Assistant to the Bishops of that diocese.

It is our great fortune that she decided to move west to be closer to her daughter and found us. She is familiar with the Episcopal Church in all its incarnations and comes highly recommended.

In her role with us, she will serve as church administrator and ministry liaison.

Please stop by the office and greet her. We are blessed to have her.

Thanks and Blessings to All,
Rev Pat

... & another kind of bible study
Please take a moment to read through this Sunday's lessons,
available at: www.lectionarypage.net
before Sunday
then consider praying with the following:
Collect of the Day
(collects the themes of the day):
Almighty God, you know that we have no power in ourselves to help ourselves: Keep us both outwardly in our bodies and inwardly in our souls, that we may be defended from all adversities which may happen to the body, and from all evil thoughts which may assault and hurt the soul; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.  Amen.

Thoughts to consider as we read the lessons before Sunday:

Old Testament: Exodus 3:1-15
Like Israel enslaved in Egypt, our collective humanity is silently crying out unknown and uncalled. In our times, Egypt is that which slashes and burns the old growth of a forgotten World, that which consumes the Earth’s resources with an insatiable appetite.

How and where do you feel called?

Psalm 63:1-8
The Psalmist gushes forth these magnificent expressions of his desire for God. “O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water.” “Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.” .

How do you express your desire for God?

New Testament: 1 Corinthians 10:1-13
P aul reminds his hearers that we too are tempted toward the kind of willful disobedience Israel practiced in her wilderness wanderings. “If you think you are standing firm,” he warns in verse 12, “be careful that you don’t fall. No temptation has seized you except what is common to man.” That suggests that while temptation is nearly as old as humanity, there’s little new “under” temptation’s “sun.” What’s more, it means that the evil one is just as interested in the destruction of God’s 21st century beloved children as he was in God’s ancient Israelite children’s ruin. He may even use our self-confidence to heighten our vulnerability to temptation .

What tempts you?

The Gospel: Luke 13:1-9
This passage is rife with both promise and peril. The promise is to address one of the persistent questions many of our people have:
why is there so much suffering in the world?
Does God cause suffering?
Is suffering or calamity a form on punishment?

These are questions usually asked in moments of extreme suffering and loss and they are as poignant as they are important.

The peril is to imagine that we can answer all those questions! We’ve all heard so many less-then-helpful (and sometimes downright awful!) explanations of suffering, running the gamut from someone saying to explain the death of a child that God needed another angel in the choir to TV preachers saying a particular calamity is God’s punishment for sin. And so we understandably want to avoid repeating those mistakes.

What do you believe about suffering in our world?

Next week: Lent 4 - The Prodigal Son. Prodgial Father.

CONGRATULATIONS!
Plans are underway for this year's Corazon volunteer construction trip to Tijuana, where we'll again build a home for a needy family, working side-by-side with our friends at the Mission Viejo mosque. On each of the last three trips, Muslim pre-teens, teenagers and young adults were enthusiastic members of the work party. This year, they hope to be joined by Christian pre-teens, teenagers and young adults.

Do you have children or grandchildren who might be interested in attending on one Saturday in the fall? (Exact date not yet chosen). Please contact Colin Stewart with questions or for further information at (949) 439-5553 or email at [email protected].

March 11 Update on
the El Toro Road Interchange Project
Dear St. George-ans:

A group of us from St. George's -- Chuck Day, Muriel Witham, Kathryn Freshley, Rose Williams and I -- attended the March 11 OCTA board of directors meeting.

The El Toro Interchange Project Planners were presenting their plans to the board. Several of us addressed the board about our concerns during the public comment period.

Please take note of the following dates:

April 1 - OCTA will release their draft proposal, initiating a 30-day period for public comment
April 18 - OCTA will host a public forum from 4:30 to 7:30PM at the Holiday Inn in Lake Forest.

They will review all public comments, possibly revise their project plans and then release the revised version.

Of note: there are now only 2 proposals, instead of the original 5. We still are unsure how, if at all, our campus will be impacted.

We will keep you updated as we go along.

Thanks.
