Wednesday Night Dinners & Fellowship Tonight

This Wednesday we begin our Fall Wednesday night programming with dinner and Life Groups. If you didn’t make a reservation for dinner, you can still come to a life group. (See below for a list of life groups and classes offered this fall.) We will also have Nursery, Kids Clubhouse (K-5), and Youth Group 6 and up. Dinner starts at 5:45 and programming starts at 6:30-7:30. We’ll see you there!

New Sunday Morning Adult Class Starting this Sunday!

Have you ever wondered how the Bible fits together over time? What are the themes that emerge and how does the Old Testament connect to the New Testament?

On Sunday mornings at 9:15 am in Patterson Auditorium, Ross Anderson will be teaching a chronological survey of the entire Bible! This will be an excellent opportunity to not only gain practical knowledge of different Biblical themes throughout Scripture, but to also understand the historical framework of how Scripture fits together. All are welcome starting this Sunday! See the schedule below.

We are excited to announce the different discipleship opportunities at St. Giles for this Fall. Please take time to prayerfully read over the offerings. They have been organized by day, with Wednesday night offerings being offered in collaboration with Wednesday night meals and kids & youth offerings.

We are also excited to announce a new opportunity at St. Giles called “Covenant Groups.” Please read about these and make sure to register below if you have any interest.

NEW OFFERING - Covenant Groups

Covenant groups consist of 3-4 people of the same gender who meet weekly for 10 weeks. The purpose of these groups is to deepen faith through the study of scripture, prayer, and mutual accountability. Covenant groups are flexible in terms of when and where they meet, meeting at times that work well for individual groups. If you have questions about this new offering, please contact Rebecca: rebecca@stgiles.org

Sunday:

Sunday Evenings Marinate at 7:00-8:30 pm

Keith and Sarah Hill, and Jo White are leading a Life Group on Sunday evenings, 7:00 to 8:30 pm, at the Hills’ home: 4604 Grove Ave. Meetings include discussion of the weekly Marinate, fellowship, and prayer. The first meeting is Sunday, September 21. All are welcome.

Monday:

Sanctuary Mondays at 3:00 pm

Sanctuary Mondays is a special time of entering into God's presence through singing and praising the Lord, followed by a time of prayer and sharing testimonies. This group meets on Monday afternoons at the home of Susan Herring from 3:00 to 4:30.

Tuesday:

Tuesday Morning Bible Study at 9:30 am, September 16

Our regular Tuesday morning meetings will start again on September 16, when we will come together for worship, prayer, an overview of our 2025 programming, and a short business meeting. The next Tuesday, September 23, we will begin a 7-week study of Kristi McLelland’s book/video series, “Luke in the Land”.

Join us on Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m. in “Common Grounds” – all are welcome!

For questions, please contact: Yolande Long, Moderator, at 804-357-3494, or email her at: yolande.a.long@gmail.com

Wednesday Evening at St. Giles, 6:30 to 7:30 pm

Marinate Group

Tom and Judy Roberts are leading a life group on Wednesday evenings in the Resource Room, focused on prayer and discussing the Marinate questions from Sunday's sermon. We will discuss scripture, grow in our faith, and enjoy community. Come as you are. There is no homework. All are welcome!

Hidden in Christ: A Study on Colossians 3

Pam and Gilpin Brown will be facilitating a Wednesday night group that meets in the library. Our sharing will be centered around the book, “Hidden in Christ” by James Bryan Smith on Colossians chapter 3. The chapters in this book are short, and each chapter has an exercise or practice for the week. We would love to have you with us!

How to Read the Bible: The Gospel of Matthew

Josh will be leading a Wednesday night life group from 6:30-7:30 in the Adult Ed. classroom on how to read and study the Bible. Each week, members will commit to studying three chapters of the Gospel of Matthew, one of which we will discuss together. As we study Matthew, we’ll introduce different methods and tools to help with reading the Bible. This is for those who are either looking for some new ways to study the Bible or perhaps have never formally had instruction on reading the Bible.

Relatable by Louis Giglio:

The Greenes and Andersons are leading a small group series called “Relatable: Making Relationships Work” by Louis Giglio. In this study, Louis Giglio explores how God transforms and heals our relationships: “Because God has gone to extraordinary lengths to relate to us, we can build incredible relationships with one another and even see restoration in broken relationships that seem impossible to repair.” This group is meeting in the History Room; all are welcome.

Thursday:

Mom’s Bible Study, 9:30-10:45 am

Whether you are a mom of littles, a mom navigating the college years, or somewhere in between, you are invited to this bible study! We gather around scripture, share the joys and challenges of our day-to-day, and pray for each other. We meet in the Resource Room, and childcare is available as needed.

Virtual Thursdays, 6:30-7:30 pm

Join Ross and Betty Anderson, and Lois Badey for a mini session of prayer and meditation in Psalms. We will use Eugene Peterson’s “Psalms Prayers of the Heart” as the basis for discussion questions. You do not need to purchase the book to participate; however, it is available on Amazon for under $10. We will meet via ZOOM on Thursdays, September 4, 11, 18, and 25, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. To receive a link to the virtual meeting space, please sign up with Ross Anderson at rossandbetty@yahoo.com.

First Thursday Book Club is an ongoing group that meets the first Thursday morning of every month in the St. Giles Welcome Center (parlor) at 10:00 am.  Each month, we discuss a book that inspires, teaches, and provides insightful discussion. Lunch follows the meeting for those whose schedules allow. All are welcome to join us.

Laughter and Lunch, second Thursdays

Laughter is one of the many ways God heals! On the second Thursday of each month, Laughter & Lunch meets in homes at 11:30 to enjoy the benefits of laughter "therapy"! Discerning God’s Voice, third Thursdays

Do you want to grow in hearing and discerning God’s voice? We are a life group that seeks to grow in the gift of prophecy, obeying Paul’s words in 1 Cor 14:1, “Follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy.” We meet once a month on the 3rd Thursday at 7:00 pm to intentionally listen in prayer and share words of knowledge, encouragement, or prophecy. All are welcome. Please let Rebecca know if you plan to join us: rebecca@stgiles.org

On Saturday Oct. 25, everyone is invited to come out to the final Richmond Kickers game of the regular season to watch our very own James Sneddon play. This is a great opportunity for some fun, fellowship, and a chance to cheer on one of our own!
