Stewardship Campaign

Continues This Sunday

Last Sunday we had our first morning to bring forward our Annual Pledge Cards as a congregation. This Sunday will be our second and last Sunday to do so in both services. After this you can always return it by mail or simply by dropping it off at the office. If you have any questions please feel free to contact our Church Administrator, Patience Flynn at pflynn@stgiles.org.  On behalf of the Stewardship Team, thank you for taking the time to prayerfully fill these out.

Pastoral Vision for St. Giles

Two weeks ago Josh shared a pastoral vision from he and Rebecca for this season at St. Giles entitled: "Going Deeper." It is based on Paul's prayer for the Ephesians in chapter 3:16-17. To view this online at our Youtube page you can watch either service by clicking the following: Traditional / Contemporary

Legacy to Legacy -

Mission RVA Thanksgiving Offering

For the next two weeks we will be having our annual Thanksgiving Offering that contributes to the expansion fund for MissionRVA (our local missions initiative). For those unfamiliar with this offering, it essentially enables MissionRVA to fund and participate in other initiatives outside of their annual budget.

This Sunday during our “Minute for Mission,” we will be sharing about the amazing opportunity we have sensed the Lord inviting us into this year. We are calling this year’s offering “Legacy to Legacy,” because we want to leverage the legacy of St. Giles as a missional presence in the city of Richmond to bring other parachurch and church leaders together to strengthen the legacy of the body of Jesus Christ here in Richmond. The Lord is already moving in this and we are excited to share more during both worship services on Sunday morning!

Wednesday Evening Schedule

As we get closer to Thanksgiving and Advent, our Wednesday night programming calendar will be shifting as well. Here are some important dates to know moving forward:

Wednesday, Nov. 22 – We will not have any Wednesday evening activities for Thanksgiving week

Wednesday, Nov. 29 – This marks the final Wednesday of the year for our standard Fall programming and Alpha

Wednesday, Dec. 6 – December Eve – This will be a fun evening of dinner, our children’s Christmas program, and a short Chrismon Service

Pastor Emeritus Keith Hill

Preaching Next Sunday

Next week the Modrzynski family will be out-of-town, and so we are excited to have our very own Pastor Emeritus, Keith Hill, preaching and leading worship on “Christ the King” Sunday. Also, if you have any pastoral emergencies while Josh and Rebecca are gone, please feel free to reach out to Keith.

Our sister church, Christ Pres, will be doing an incredible speaking series titled “Hope Talks” leading up to Advent this year. Each week they will have a featured speaker on the topic of Hope that you can register to watch on Zoom. The great news is that all of these talks will be recorded and available to watch afterwards. So even if you can’t make it, make sure to register! (Each talk has a separate registration). Help with Refreshments Needed!

Wow, 2024 is rapidly approaching. I want to send a heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who signed up to help with refreshments in 2023!

I’m now asking people to sign up to supply refreshments in 2024. Since we continue to get Panera bread donations, we only need people to cover the fruit. Some may choose to purchase the fruit themselves and others may choose to donate $15 per the number of weeks you want to cover.

If you will donate refreshments in 2024, please give me the number of weeks you want to sign up for and whether you prefer to purchase the items or donate $15 to purchase them. I’ll remind everyone who signed up when we get closer to the end of the year.

Thank you!

End of Life Ministry at St. Giles

As you know, we launched the End-of-Life Ministry for St Giles (Legal & Financial) a few weeks ago. We have begun to receive requests for private meetings and for copies of our documents. These documents include:

  • Flyer
  • List of Attorneys
  • List of Financial Advisors
  • Notes to Spouse in Case of Death
  • Other helpful items

Members of St. Giles can schedule private meetings as well. These can include spouses and adult family members. At these meetings, the leader will help you with understanding the essential documents for legal, financial, and medical circumstances. He can also help you prepare for communication with your family for where and how to access these important documents.

You can schedule a private meeting or order any of these documents by contacting Skip Thistle (804-938-8518 or fredthistle68@gmail.com).

Donations Needed!

Thank you St. Giles for all the donations you have given for the cancer patients. So many have donated books, pencils, and crayons that our need has been completely met for those items. For now we are asking that you concentrate on the food pantry.

With the cost of food rising so quickly, it is almost impossible for the pantry to keep up. Immediate needs are:

  • cereal
  • saltines
  • pasta/pasta sauce
  • canned vegetables

They will shortly begin their Thanksgiving and Christmas drive to give each family a complete meal at Thanksgiving and hopefully for Christmas also. We at St. Giles can help so much. The needs for this drive are:

  • stuffing mix
  • canned pumpkin or pie mix
  • pumpkin pie spice
  • evaporated milk
  • mashed potatoes
  • gravy
  • canned baked apples
  • canned yams
  • crispy onions
  • canned green beans
  • cream of mushroom soup
  • cranberry jelly

Thank you so much for your help!
