Chrismon Service Dec. 3rd.

On Wednesday, December 3, we will have our annual “December Eve” Chrismon service. This will begin with dinner at 5:45, followed by a “Family Chrismon service” beginning at 6:30. Come out and enjoy the beginning of the Advent season as we tell the story of God’s faithfulness entering into the world through Jesus Christ.

Also, don’t forget to turn in your meal card this Sunday.

Adult Sunday School During Advent

We will have several Christmas-themed classes for adult Sunday School in December! On December 7, Keith Hill will teach the nativity story from the gospels. On December 14, Betty Anderson will teach about gifts. On December 21, James Anderson will teach on the Old Testament prophecies of the coming of Christ. There will be no class on December 28.

Christmas Cantata- Dec. 14 @10:30am.

As part of our Advent celebration, our Sunday morning service on Dec. 14 will feature our Christmas cantata titled: “The Ballad of Bethlehem.” This year’s cantata will feature the St. Giles Community Choir singing alongside a live chamber orchestra. This is a great service to invite friends and family to and will prepare us to enter into the beauty of knowing Emmanuel, God with us.

Celebrating MIZ. P'S Retirement!

For twelve years, St. Giles has been blessed to have Patience Flynn at the center of all things administrative! It’s now time for some well-earned rest, but we can’t let her go without a celebration to honor and thank her. Please plan to stay for a reception in Patterson following the worship service on December 14th. Hugs, laughter, and expressions of gratitude for a job well done will be the order of the day!

St. Giles is seeking a part-time financial assistant to maintain the daily and weekly financial responsibilities of the church. This will be a 10-15 hr. per week position. If you are interested in learning more about this position, please email: StGilesRVA@gmail.com

FREE Christmas Brass Concert - Dec. 21 @ 3:00pm.

St. Giles is excited to welcome back the Richmond Brass and Percussion Consort for their annual Christmas Concert. This is the perfect opportunity for the whole family to get in the Christmas spirit. The band is composed of some of the best brass players in the region, and the repertoire always consists of lively Christmas tunes often arranged in the style of “British brass bands.” The concert will take place in the St. Giles Sanctuary, Sunday, Dec. 21 at 3:00pm.

Susan Herring will be sharing Follow the Light…..

Come on a journey of heart sharing, storytelling, and dramatic moments, and follow the Light as we look to Christmas.

Susan taught English, drama and journalism for fourteen years prior to working full time for her company puppets & promises/ professional productions. For many years she performed at schools, libraries, churches, women’s groups, and sometimes unusual places like the “Annabel Lee”! Susan presented programs for children and adults. Her programs included puppets shows, storytelling, dramatic monologues, and inspiration talks. In addition, she taught Sunday school and led a ladies' Bible Study.

Susan recalls with gratitude the varied seasons of sharing through the arts and in other ways in following the prompting as the Holy Spirit in starting such group as: an ecumenical Christian drama group, a mothers prayer group, The Lighthouse support group, two neighborhood Bible Studies, a book club at her son’s coffee shop, Crossroads coffee, in which unchurched people attended.

In this latest season, Susan finds joy in the richness of sharing at St. Giles with the three groups that meet monthly ___First Thursday Book Club, Laughter and Lunch, and sanctuary Mondays.

The Herring family, Susan and her husband and Bill, and son Will were blessed to be part of a weekly family koinonia group let by the Bells, Varvels, and Brittons.
