Ash Wednesday Service Tonight!

This Wednesday, March 5, we will be celebrating Ash Wednesday as we begin the Lenten season. We will have dinner at 5:45 like normal, and then life groups are invited to meet at 6:30 for a short time and then join us for the service at 7. Modeled after the 40 days Christ spent in the wilderness, Lent is a set apart season in the life of the Church. As we draw closer to Easter, we use this time to examine our faith and create practices around drawing closer to Christ. As we prepare to come to Ash Wednesday, be thinking about a particular spiritual discipline or fast that you may want to enter into during this Lenten season. Ask the Lord if there is something He wants you to put on hold or enter into for this set apart time so that you can focus on Him more clearly.

This Sunday will mark the beginning of Daylight Savings Time, so make sure to set your clocks ahead by one hour on Saturday night so that we don’t miss you on Sunday!

Lenten Series Starting This Sunday

There is a popular saying that goes: Consider the statement: “I am... Two of the most powerful words; for what you put after them shapes your reality.” However, as followers of Jesus what does it mean when He says “I am” and how does it shape our reality? During this season of Lent we will be looking at the “I am” statements in the Gospel of John with this very question in mind. We will begin this Ash Wednesday with the statement from Jn. 6:35: “I am the Bread of Life.”

We are excited to be offering a cantata this Easter season featuring the Community Choir accompanied by a small orchestra. The cantata will be performed during our worship service on Palm Sunday, April 13. This is open to anyone who would like to participate. The rehearsal process will be the same as the Christmas Cantata, one hour rehearsals after Sunday services (12 PM-1 PM). Additionally any youth who are involved in Lion, Witch, and Wardrobe are permitted to leave early in order to get lunch before your next rehearsal. If you have any questions please contact Pastor Josh or Angelo Galarza.

Youth Drama Supplies Request

Rehearsals have begun for the St. Giles Youth Drama production of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. We're excited to present this show to you in May so be on the lookout for more show details coming soon.

The production quality we have in mind fo this show is more ambitious than previous productions so we are in need of a few household items that you may have. If you are disposing of any of the following, please consider donating them to Youth Drama:

  • Unsoiled medium to large corrugated cardboard boxes (the type that ship from Amazon). No pizza boxes, please.
  • Unsoiled lightweight cardboard boxes (the type that cereal and crackers come in)
  • Unsoiled newspapers
  • Cardboard tubing of any kind (e.g. poster mailers, empty wrapping paper rolls)
  • Bamboo skewers (shishkabob style)
  • Dowel rods - square or round
  • A box fan
  • An old bicycle that we'll salvage for parts (particularly handle grips, brake levers/cables, wheel and chain assembly).

As our rehearsals continue, we will update this list. Our need is small and we are very adaptive to any materials we have on hand so there's no need to purchase any of these items.

Please put all donations on the stage in Patterson Auditorium.

Thanks for your support-

MAKE Studio Updates

Ever wondered what we do at Make Studio? Watch this video to discover more about our unique St. Giles ministry and how we’re making an impact!”

First Thursday Book Club

Each person who facilitates book club has a unique and refreshing way of presenting, and such is true of book club member and graduate of ORU, Colleen Belvin. She will share about a man whose mother, like Hannah, dedicated him to the lord and whose name means “spoken word”. Oral Roberts stuttered and yet the prophecy given of him before his birth came to fruition. You are invited to book club, 3/6 at 10 in the parlor, when Colleen will share fascinating insights about Oral Roberts. Our special “guest” who was “close” to Oral Roberts will briefly make an appearance. Lunch will follow for those whose schedules allow.

Laughter & Lunch

A special time of laughter is fast approaching when laughter and lunch meets at 11:30 on Thursday, March 13th. Bring your lunch and something humorous to share and enjoy fun fellowship and the added benefit of the good medicine of laughter. Call or text Susan Herring at 804-514-1621 for details.
