February 5, 2020 - Anchored in His Love
Love - St. Monica & St. Teresa of Avila
Dear St. Isidore School Families,

“We shall never know all the good that a simple smile can do” – Mother Teresa
Throughout the month of February, we will celebrate the gospel value of LOVE . Love, the biggest and greatest of emotions, can be experienced daily through small acts of kindness. As Mother Teresa stated in the quote above, even the simple gesture of a smile has the power to change someone’s day. I urge you to smile at those around you, those you care about deeply, your family and friends. Share a smile with your coworkers, the woman at the grocery store or a stranger on the street. A smile really can turn someone’s day around and make you feel better in the process.
Campus Safety
In an effort to increase campus safety, eleven security cameras were installed on campus last week. The placement was chosen to cover specific points of entry, allowing us a better vantage point. At this point, the plans for a fence are on hold. We are looking at different options to block cars from entering the campus between the church and the school building. We will keep you posted. Mr. Keane and I are committed to campus safety, and our efforts to improve it are ongoing.
SIS loves Science
This year’s Science Fair was fabulous! I applaud the effort and dedication shown by all the 7th and 8th grade students. Please take a moment to view the Science Fair section below to learn about this year’s winners. On Saturday, February 8, the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will continue to the CSDO Science Fair held at St. Joseph Notre Dame High School, Alameda. I want to take a moment to thank our fabulous Science teachers for their continued dedication to our Science program. I also want to thank the many volunteers, especially 8th-grade parent Linda Baldyga, who has helped organize this event for years.
Auction 2020 – The countdown begins
Our annual school auction is 23 days away! If you have not yet bought a ticket, now is the time. This event is for everyone, so whether you are part of the parent community, staff, alumni or parish, I encourage you to come and enjoy a fabulous night in support of SIS. I would love nothing more than a packed venue, so please click here to purchase your ticket! The last day to purchase tickets will be Friday, February 21.
Roll up in style
The last day to purchase a ticket for the VIP Drawing will be tomorrow! Don’t miss the opportunity to cruise in style. The VIP package allows you to skip the registration line, drink line, and check-out line. It also includes accommodation the night of the auction at the San Ramon Marriott. Look for more information in today’s Family Envelope. The winner will be announced on Friday.
Next week is Random Acts of Kindness Week (RAOK). It is celebrated nationwide to encourage acts of kindness. Kindness is encouraged here daily through our faith, but this is a special time, when it is celebrated in the larger community. I encourage you to do a RAOK, small or large, with your child. It is proven that it actually feels better to do than to receive an act of kindness, so go and spread the LOVE .
Have a wonderful rest of the week!

God bless,
Maria Ward, Principal

Challenge Success Tip of the Week
Tip of the week: Discipline and setting limits.
There are two sides to parenting: warmth and discipline. Warmth is easier, but discipline is equally important. Children feel secure and cared for when their parents are willing to set limits. This is how children learn important skills like self-control and frustration tolerance. Don’t worry about your child’s temporary anger or indignation when you set limits. It will pass.

San Ramon Valley Council of PTAs is pleased to bring the "Challenge Success:
A Well-Balanced Perspective on College Fit" to our community on February 22nd, from 8:30am to 11am at the California High School Theater. Click here for information on this event.
