October 24, 2018 - Walking Together in Faith
Peace - St. Francis of Assisi
Dear St. Isidore Families,

Feed your Soul
In the month of October, we reflect on the gospel value of PEACE . We have discussed fostering peace with small acts of kindness and striving for peace of mind by letting God’s love guide us. Another way to evoke PEACE is to nurture ourselves by feeding our soul with acts of positivity. Try to find a small amount of time each day to do things that nourish and revitalize you. A quiet moment for prayer, a walk in nature, or time with loved ones can offer the reset your body and soul crave.
Morning with Maria
In an ongoing effort to keep lines of school communication open, there will be a “Morning with Maria” this Thursday at 8:30 am, in the Bensen Center. These impromptu meetings allow the school and parent community to come together in a casual atmosphere to discuss topics of interest. Coffee and breakfast goodies will be provided.
I hope to see you there!
Challenge Success Update
Monday staff meetings allow faculty and staff the opportunity to work together on professional development. We spent time this past Monday discussing current Challenge Success tips and practices. The focus was on ways to do a “check in” with students using an open-session technique. These “check ins” allow students to share a concern, a joy, a worry, or a success anonymously. Sharing with peers encourages communication and problem solving and allows them to see a commonality.
Halloween Fun
Excitement is building for next week’s Halloween celebration! Our Annual Halloween Parade will begin in the courtyard at 11:00 am, and school will be dismissed at 12:00pm. There will be NO CARPOOL on Halloween. Please pick up your child/children directly from their classroom. Kids Konnection will not be available after school. Costume Do’s and Don’ts, along with other spooktacular details, can be found in the Halloween section below.
Yesterday, an email was sent out detailing the updated SIS carpool policy. Click here to view the communication. I truly appreciate your support and feel blessed to be part of such an amazing community. Next week, we will kick off a month-long Mind the Gap Push. Stay tuned for details.
Have a wonderful rest of the week!

God bless,

Maria Ward

Halloween Day
The month of October brings Halloween fun! Students will be allowed to wear their Halloween costumes to school on Wednesday, October 31 st Our Annual Halloween Parade will begin at 11:00am, in the courtyard, and school will be dismissed at 12:00pm. There will be NO CARPOOL on Halloween. Please pick up your child/children directly from their classroom.  Kids Konnection will not be available after school.

Please remember to take into consideration the ages of our student body. Costumes should not be too scary, gross, or violent. It is common for children to decide on a group costume or costume theme, and it is important that they are inclusive to all who would like to join.

Please remember that on Thursday, November 1st school will start at 8:50am due to All Saints Day Mass . Mass will be at 9:10am. All students are to be dressed in full Mass attire.

Candy Donation: St. Isidore School will once again be collecting Halloween candy to donate to the Blue Star Moms. Candy collection will start on Nov. 1st and end on Nov. 8th . This tradition was started by a former parent who passed away last year, Kathy Oertli. We honor Kathy's dedication to the Blue Star Moms and send our love to her children, Joey, Julia and Matthew, her husband Phil and the family.
Halloween Boo's
Boo's now on sale for $1: Join the Halloween fun and buy a "Boo" for yourself, a friend, a family member or a neighbor. The last day to buy a Boo is this Thursday, October 25th.
Please consider donating to Mind the Gap, the goal is for everyone to donate $500 per child to help close this year’s gap in our operating budget. Every dollar counts, and your donation is 100% tax deductible . Please take an extra minute to look over the Mind the Gap “Double your Donation” flyer in today’s Family Envelope! For more information or to donate, please click here .
Be on the lookout for a “sweet reminder” during afternoon carpool on Monday!
Please check your family envelope for a “Save the Date” invitation for the auction. We hope to see all of you there!

Challenge Success
Tip of the week: Build responsibility at home and in the community. Have children help in age-appropriate ways with chores around the house. This requires you to take time to show children how to do the chores and to allow tasks to get done differently (and sometimes not as well) as if you did them yourself. It also reminds children that they are a contributing, capable part of a family team, not an entitled member served by parents. As they get older, encourage children to be active participants in their community, and set an example by being involved yourself.
Random Acts of Kindness
Random acts of kindness are deliberate attempts to brighten another person's day by doing something thoughtful, nice, and caring. Go out and spread kindness SIS. Please let the office know if you do or witness a RAOK.
Thank you Smallcakes Bakery for surprising the teachers and staff with cupcakes on Monday. It was a sweet way to start the week. We appreciate your kindness and generosity.
Red Ribbon Week
Red Ribbon Week is in full swing, October 22nd - 26th !  Students are invited to help celebrate this special week showing how we CAN make good choices. This year it’s all about the “WE CAN” attitude. We are encouraging the students to bring in CANS of food to support the Monument Crisis Center.

Thursday, 10/25, WE ARE A TEAM!
Students can wear their favorite SPORTS TEAM SHIRT/JERSEY with their uniform bottoms for TWO CANS of tuna or chicken! WE CAN DO IT! Student Leadership will give the winning class their RED Swedish Fish at AM Assembly. There will be a Faith Family Activity at 2:10pm.

Friday, 10/26, WE LOVE ONE ANOTHER!
Students can wear RED shirts, red socks, and red shoes with jeans for a $1.00 or more donation. Proceeds will go to Loaves & Fishes. We will wrap up the week with a spirit rally in the gym at 1:30. After the rally, we will go back to the classrooms for PM Announcements.

Scrip News...
Thank you to all the families who participate in SCRIP. It is an easy fundraiser for our school, and the bonus is that you always get exactly what you paid for. We continue to strive for 100% participation and do hope that if you haven’t purchased SCRIP yet, you will start now! There truly is a SCRIP card for everyone in your family. We all buy groceries, gas and maybe a latte here or there, and ordering your cards at school is easy.

Every SCRIP retailer gives a percentage back to the school and some give significantly more than others, but no matter the donation, each purchase adds up and helps to support St. Isidore School. Throughout the course of the school year please look at your calendar, shopping needs, birthdays, vacation plans, and home projects to see how you can budget for SCRIP cards.

See's Candies has raised its price on the one pound certificate to $20.50. Although it's a little more, See's always delivers in quality and deliciousness. Stock up on a few for the holidays; they make excellent hostess gifts. See's also gives back 20% to St. Isidore for every purchase!

Thank you for all your Support! Scrip Order Form. Click h ere to learn more about SCRIP. S ign up fo r Scripsense, a digital fundraising program that allows organizations and their members to earn funds through online shopping.
