October 10, 2018 - Walking Together in Faith
Peace - St. Francis of Assisi
Hello St. Isidore Families,

In the month of October, St. Isidore School celebrates the Gospel Value of Peace. St. Francis of Assisi is our saint of the month. Through him, we learn it is in giving that we receive. Smiling is a simple gesture to give with no monetary cost and it can make such a difference in someone’s day. It is a kind and loving way to show that you see value in others. The act of smiling is contagious: when you smile at someone, you inspire them to smile, spreading happiness. What a wonderful way to live out the teaching of St. Francis!

Challenge Success Update
Several of our staff attended the Challenge Succes (CS) conference a few weeks ago and learned strategies on how to "incorporate creating a more balanced and academically fulfilling life for our students" into our curriculum. During the conference, our team collaborated with our CS coach, to establish our school's Challenge Success Vision Statement: “We believe in a school where we take the time to develop lifelong learners in a faith-filled environment that fosters curiosity and balance.” As a staff, we will beaddressing topics in our professional development meetings on Mondays. Some of the topics that will be covered are: Mindfulness, Rethinking Homework, Cultivating Curiosity, Teaching for Engagement, Engaging Parents, Whole-School Approach to Social Emotional Learning, Exploring Happiness, and Reducing Stress. We will continue to inform you of any steps that will be taking to enhance these topics at our school.

Conference Wrap-Up
Thank you for taking time last week to accommodate teacher conferences. I hope you enjoyed meeting with your child’s teacher and discussing your student’s successes, strengths, and goals. I want to acknowledge and thank the teachers for their effort, dedication, and commitment to learning. A big thank you to our Hospitality Committee—Alida Beilke, Kristi Brown, and Annemarie Carpenter—for providing the teachers with a well-deserved lunch. You always go out of your way to make the staff feel special and it is appreciated.

Do you know?
Parents need to allow kids space to develop on their own and make mistakes. Kids today experience unprecedented levels of adult direction and intervention. Whenever possible, let kids play and work on their own. Encourage appropriate risk-taking and allow kids to make mistakes–and learn from them. Self-direction and risk-taking breed resilience, creative thinking, and long-term success.
