November 7, 2018 - Walking Together in Faith
Grace - St. Francis of Assisi
Dear St. Isidore Families,

“It is not joy that makes us grateful, it is gratitude that makes us joyful.”

The Attitude of Gratitude
Happy November! I recently learned that November has been proclaimed National Gratitude Month. It seems fitting that such a spectacular month would receive such a title. Nature is truly at its finest right now, offering an array of colors, but beyond an appreciation of the beauty lies a feeling of gratitude specific to the season. I encourage you to take a few moments each day this month to reflect on what you are grateful for and wanted you to know that I am truly grateful for YOU!

Student of the Month
Congratulations to our new Students of the Month for November/December, Eddie Stangler (fourth grade, Mrs. Trujillo’s class) and Samantha Gibson (eighth grade, Mrs. Carter’s class). Faculty and staff nominate and vote on students based on the monthly Gospel Values. November’s Gospel Value is “Grace” and December’s Gospel Value is “Kindness.” Eddie’s teacher said he is patient and respectful and helps others without being asked. Samantha’s teacher said she is a quiet leader who is kind, respectful and self-motivated. We celebrate you both!

Carpool Parent Volunteers Needed
Recently at “Morning with Maria,” it was suggested that parent volunteers could assist with afternoon carpool, helping to alleviate the demand for teachers to be in their carpool positions by the end of the day. The suggestion was appreciated, and I decided it was worth a try. Please consider helping, and click here to volunteer. I also wanted to clarify that if you are volunteering in the morning, you are welcome to park in the Ministry Center Parking Lot after you drop off your child through carpool. Your cooperation is appreciated.

Veterans Day – Please Join Us
We invite you to join us this Friday, November 9, at 10:00am, as we gather together in the Msgr. Cardelli Center to honor and celebrate those who have served and those who continue to serve our nation at our annual Veterans Day ceremony. If you know a Veteran who would like to attend, please contact the school office.

Sip & Shop
We invite you to kick off your holiday shopping at our annual Sip & Shop Holiday Boutique on Thursday, December 6, from 6pm–9pm. This festive community event truly offers something for everyone. Shop, mingle and be merry while supporting SIS!  C lick here to purchase your ticket.

I apologize for the lengthy newsletter. However, this is a busy time of year and there is lots of information to give. I will continue to streamline as best as possible. We do not want you to miss anything, so we give any item of importance a section for itself. Please make sure to read through the entire email for information.

Friday, November 9 will be a 12pm dismissal. Kids Konnection will be available. There will be no school Monday, November 12, in observance of Veterans Day. I hope the long weekend allows you extra time with family and friends!

God bless,

Maria Ward
Principal

Random Acts of Kindness
Random acts of kindness are deliberate attempts to brighten another person's day by doing something thoughtful, nice, and caring. Go out and spread kindness SIS. Please let the office know if you do or witness a RAOK.
Fifth Grader, James Kuuskraa got a head start on his service project by surprising a three year old boy, Ben Rutherford with pumpkins and carving tools. Ben, who lives in Danville is battling Neuroblastoma, a rare form of cancer that aggressively enters the soft tissues, bones and bone marrow of the body. We are proud of the kindness James displayed and we send prayers to the Rutherford Family.

Challenge Success
  • Tip of the week: Unplug- Set limits on the amount of time your children watch TV, play screen-based games, instant message, and use the computer recreationally. For young children, less than an hour or so per day is a good starting point. Older kids also need limits on their screen time and the content they watch. All screen time is not equal, and you need to be aware of what your child is watching and with whom they are communicating. Children need ample time to interact with real people, without technology, and to be in the natural world.
Library Corner
The SIS Library would like to thank all of the parents and students who supported our recent author visits! Because of you and your support, SIS is able to attract such award winning authors as Gordon Korman and Jon Agee. It was evident that all who attended thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and left the visits with amazing books! Happy reading!
