A Note from Father Rock

Good morning, Church Family,

I am writing this on Tuesday afternoon, and the voting is well underway. We prayed last night (Monday) with 6 other congregations represented. We may or may not know the outcome when you read this. Probably not. But our task to gather in Christ's name to worship God and make & be disciples does not change. We will continue to strive to keep our Baptismal Covenant in this time and place whoever wins. And if you are worried, "Fear Not! Arise & Shine."

Sunday, we had a wonderful time of worship with the baptism of Keller, the reading our Deceased Beloveds names, and Nancy's Stewardship Moment. Such a powerful Sunday. Monday's Election Eve service, as mentioned, was encouraging as well. We have so much to be thankful for.

We have another big weekend coming up. Thursday through Saturday is the Diocesan Convention, the 230th if you are counting. The Stew Cook and Sale is Saturday. And our Stewardship Ingathering is this Sunday. You will want to be here this weekend!

With All Saints and All Souls this week I have been thinking of loved ones who have left us, and I learned today that one of my dear mentors passed away yesterday. Gracie directed a camp I served for many years and taught me what ministry was all about. It struck me hard that she is no longer with us. Several times we mentioned that we need to catch up soon. We never did. I grieve because I love, but I know where Gracie is. Without a doubt. Life is short, dear friends. Never postpone joy, and never ever miss a chance to say I love you. Think on the people that made a difference in your life. Thank God for them, and if they are still with us, take a moment to reach out (especially in this month of Thanksgiving) and say thank you. You and they will be glad you did.

Thank you for being my Church Family, too! I love you.

A huge thank you to our Parishioners who help us celebrate those who have served our country so faithfully. We are grateful for their service.

Annual Stew 11/9

It's that time of year again! Our Annual Brunswick Stew is upon us. We are so excited to be selling our famous "Bishop's Blessed Brunswick Stew." They will be $14 a quart. If you would like to reserve a quart (or more) for yourself or your family call Kasey and she can set you up. (804-798-6336). You can pay when you pick it up via check, cash or card on Saturday, November 9th between 3-5pm. If you would like to volunteer to help cook or clean up, please let us know. We could use the extra help!

Stewardship Sunday & Community Meal

THIS Sunday, November 10th we will celebrate our Stewardship Sunday. We will celebrate the privilege it is to give back to our community in our 10am service, followed by our Stewardship Sunday meal, provided by Keith Herald. It will surely be a delicious meal and rich time in community! We hope you will make plans to join us. If you haven't sent in your pledge card already, please bring it with you to the service. If you need a card, let us know and we will get you one.

Coffee Hour Sign Ups

We are so grateful for each of our volunteers that help us with Hospitality. We were wondering if you would be willing to help us with our Coffee Hour following the 10am service. Each week a person will sign up to be our lead volunteer for Coffee Hour. That person will be responsible for getting snacks, coffee/tea service and water/lemonade made and out for people to enjoy following the 10am service. The lead person can use all our supplies here at the church (plates, napkins, cups, coffee, lemonade, etc), but is responsible for picking up some lite snack food items. They can submit their receipts to the office for reimbursement. The lead volunteer will also be responsible for cleaning up, putting things away, and taking out the trash. You are welcome to sign up yourself or combine efforts with others. If everyone takes a date once a quarter, we can cover our whole year!

Please review the available slots HERE and click on the button to sign up. Thank you! We are so grateful for the ways you support this community!

Santa Shop Donations

Doing some fall cleaning? Finding beautiful trinkets or wares that you no longer need? Feel free to donate early to the Santa Shop. (During Advent Fair, 12/1, we invite our children to shop in our Santa's Shop for their family members for Christmas gifts, for free) We are in need of donations of items for the shop. We would also love a few Christmas gift bags and tissue paper. Please drop them in the hallway box.

Some examples of items that we would love:

Candles, snow gloves, oven mitts, stationary, pen sets, nativity sets, ornaments, little keepsakes, mugs, pottery, notepads, card games, nice books, etc.

Advent Faire will be December 1st and we would love to be able to prepare well before Thanksgiving to be ready to kick off Advent our favorite way! We look forward to sharing in this wonderful time with our church family!

Confirmation Class

We will be holding our annual Confirmation Classes on Sunday afternoons 11/3, 11/10, 11/24, and 12/1 from 4:30-6:30pm. There will be no class 11/17. If you would like to join us for Confirmation classes, let us know. We would love to have you come and learn more.

This is a Thanksgiving box drive being held by Peter Paul. You are welcome to fill a box with all the items listed above or you can bring in just a singular item to contribute. We are grateful for any and all donations. Betty Moore will be taking the donations we receive down to Peter Paul November 12th.

CHILDREN & YOUTH PROGRAMMING

9am- Nursery & Children's Sunday School

10am- Children's Church

The Kids Give Back

We have a number of children that love animals and want to find ways to give back to our community. This November the kids will be collecting donations for Loving Acres Farm Sanctuary. This sanctuary rescues animals that would have otherwise been euthanized including Perogi the sheep in a wheelchair or Major Sparklepants the three legged They are in need of towels, crib sheets and old pack and plays. They also have shared an Amazon wish list for their farm. We look forward to delivering these donations to Loving Acres during the Thanksgiving holiday. If you would like to come along, I will share more details soon. Please help us to support this worthy cause and support the passions of our SJTL children.
