Our Weekly News & Updates
|
|
Friends,
Thank you for making our Annual Meeting a success. We thank you for helping us meet quorum, and we congratulate and thank our new Vestry Members for serving, Ian Sutton, Kimette Cannady, Paula Davies, and Jenny Bruce. They will all be serving three year terms.
I also want to share that Lou Flanagan has been elected Senior Warden and Nancy Chamlee as Junior Warden. These are both one year terms.
My address can be found HERE if you were not able to be there. I look at what we did in this last year, and the steps we will take as we come out of this season of Coronatide.
Friends, keep the course as we are getting close to the end. We still have months to go, And that is what it is. As I mentioned, if all things continue we may be able to resume outdoor worship come Easter. That is our hope and prayer. We will see.
I hope you have been partaking in our Lenten offering this season. People are getting a lot out of it, they say. It is never too late to jump in with it all online.
Blessings,
Rock+

MARK LENTEN CONVERSATIONS
|
|
We are thrilled to announce a thoughtful and creative way to read through the gospel of Mark in the Lenten season together. Each week we will be posting a different conversation between Rock+, Harrison and a member of our Parish. They read three chapters and discuss it as Spirit leads them. We are reading through the CEB (Common English Bible) Study Bible. Please come pick up your own copy on the table in the Memorial Garden. They are free for the taking.
We hope you will join us as we move into Mark chapters 7-9 with Gay Gipson with Father Rock and Harrison. The link to watch is HERE on YouTube. (In case you missed the weeks Neale Smith & the Leggotts- they there too!)

SUPPORTING THE HANOVER ARC
|
|
The Hanover ARC is thrilled to be offering their clients the book club they love so dearly again. They asked if we would like to support them in this in donating 8 copies of Ralph S. Mouse, by Beverly Cleary. (Of course we would!) The books are $6.99 on Amazon. HERE is a link to the sign up genius if you would like to provide them with a book. (The Amazon link is on the sign up genius)
You are welcome to drop it off to them, drop it by here, or have Amazon mail it directly to them (PO Box 91, Ashland, VA 23005) by April 2. We appreciate your goodness and generosity so very much! You are such a wonderful community!

Shady Tree Services did an awesome job cleaning up the tree damage after all the ice storms. We had quite a few large limbs and trees come down. So thankful for all our volunteers that help to make this wonderful community run so smoothly as well.

We had an awesome time coming together for our annual meeting. It was SO good to "see" one another! We reached Quaram and have elected our four new Vestry members to the team. Welcome Jenny Bruce, Kimette Cannady, Karen Davies, and Ian Sutton! We are so grateful for your willingness and know God will do great things!
We will miss Randy Marshall & Will Reed very much, but are deeply grateful for their service to this community!

We had our virtual Contemplative Service this past Sunday. The theme was Celtic Spirituality in honor of St. Patrick. It is a feast for the eyes and ears! We had a few technical difficulties on Sunday so we wanted to send a link so that you could watch if you hadn't been able to. It is a gift!

Shrine Mont Camps is excited to offer both in-person and online camp experiences this Summer. Camp leaders have been hard at work for many months, consulting with medical professionals and other camps professionals across the country to design camps that will be fun and safe for all. And, building on the success of last summer, Shrine Mont Camps will again offer Light in the Valley, an online camp where campers can make friends, play and worship together from home.
Registration will open March 23 but you can check out camp dates today. SMC is also asking camper families to provide feedback via this survey, which will help inform ongoing plans and preparations for the 2021 summer camps. Make sure to sign up early if you'd like to participate! Spots will fill fast!
In-person on the Mountain: What’s the Same, What’s New
Clearly Summer Camp 2021 will look a little different from year’s past, but one thing won’t change: Campers will still grow in their relationships to self, others and God in a safe, inclusive and loving environment. Camps will feature smaller groupings for some parts of the day and come together in larger groups outdoors, still employing appropriate safety measures. Medical staff will be in residence to provide expert management of pandemic protocols and response. You can read more about protocols in the FAQs.
Light in the Valley Online Camp
Last summer’s Light in the Valley camps proved that online camp can be fun, faith-filled and a time for making friends. We’ll be sharing more details about online camps in the coming weeks.
Now Hiring Camp Staff
Shrine Mont Camps is eager to fill counselor and staff positions for both in person camp and virtual camp. Some virtual camp staff will be able to work from home. If you know someone whom you think would make a great camp counselor or staff member, please forward this email and encourage them to apply today!

COVID Vaccine Information for Hanover Residents
(Chickahominy Health District)
As the Chickahominy Health District (CHD) rolls out the COVID vaccines to community members, remember:
- Please DO call the COVID call center at 804-365-3240 or visit https://www.vdh.virginia.gov/chickahominy/ and complete the CHD Vaccine Sign-up Survey, if you’d like to add your name to the vaccine list. The call center is handling a large volume of calls so if you leave a message, the team will contact you as soon as possible. You only need to do one of these steps to be on the list.
- Please DO NOT expect an immediate call to schedule a vaccination appointment. Please be patient. You will be contacted when an appointment slot is available based on your eligibility and vaccine supply. When a Chickahominy Health District (CHD) team member contacts you, please do not give out their contact information without asking them first.
- DO (safely) help your eligible family and friends sign up to be on the vaccine list, if they are not able to do so on their own.
- DO NOT call or email daily to check on your status. CHD will contact you when an appointment is available. There is a process that must be followed for this to work.
- DO be kind and help if you are able. The links below are a few ways you can support local vaccine and COVID response efforts. As you wait for your turn, please continue to practice mask wearing, physical distancing, and hand washing. We are in this together and we will end this together.

A Prayer for Receiving the COVID Vaccine
By Rabbi Naomi Levy
I have been praying for this day and now it is here!
With great excitement, a touch of trepidation
and with deep gratitude
I give thanks for all the scientists who toiled day and night
so that I might receive this tiny vaccination.
That will protect me and all souls around this world.
With the pandemic still raging
I am blessed to do my part of defeat it.
Let this be the beginning of a new day,
a new time of hope, of joy, of freedom
And most of all, of health.
I thank you, God for blessing me with life
For sustaining my life
And for enabling me to reach this awe-filled moment.
Amen

Lord, we lift up this nation struggling with itself these days, reeling from this pandemic and its repercussions. Encourage us to faithfulness, righteousness, and compassion for all God’s Children. We lift up Justin, Archbishop of Canterbury, Michael, our Presiding Bishop, Susan, Jennifer, and Porter our Bishops, Rock and Becky, our priests, and Harrison, our deacon. May they be strengthened and encouraged as the work with us to proclaim your Good News in this world. We pray for Joe, our President, Ralph, our Governor, and Steve, our Mayor, and all our elected officials. Guide them to lead us to the common good.
We ask your prayers for peace; for goodwill among nations; and for the well-being of all people. Remembering especially Gus, Pat, Dick, Erin, Joanie, Anna, Meredith, Madge, Mary Ann, Katie, Molly, Amy, Meghann, Mark, Carol, David, Alice, Dennis, Barbara, Colin and Caleb, Jimmy, Ricki Carson, Michael Fox, Alex Gillette, Bill & Beth Arrott, Michele, John & Johnny Murphy, Bill Blakemore, Rose, Mason, Elizabeth Attkisson (Erin Cobb's mother), Jan Meacham, Karl Meyer, Chambers Cromwell (friend of Betty & Jim Moore), Horace Crowe (friend of the Meyer’s family), Delaney Thompson family, Aubrey Fletcher, Dee Alvarez, Ginny Miller (sister of Carol Barnes), Shelby Davies, Lyla Buchanan, Kathy Marshall, Kimette Cannady, Melanie Bruce, Bob Ellithorpe, Elaine Belyea, Pam Gillette, Melanie Fischer, Dennis Folsom, Tom & Fran Burke (Beth Renswick’s aunt & uncle), Ginny Miller (Carol Barnes’ sister), Maria & Jarrett, Doris Hassell, Carter and Lila (family of Betsy Snipes and Kristina Raney), The Paxton family (Pat Jordan’s son-in-law’s family) and Rev. Dr. Susannah Metz.
We ask your prayers for the poor, the sick, the hungry, the oppressed, and those in prison. We also ask your prayers for those serving in the diplomatic corps, the military, and as missionaries: Kemper Jones, Greg Ericksen, Matthew Thomas, Philip Morison, James Ashley, Andrew Brunson, Jordan Fox, and Katherine Murphy.
We ask your prayers for those who have died.
We ask your prayers for those who grieve.
We pray for the coming of God’s realm in Metropolitan Richmond: We pray for health care in Metropolitan Richmond: For persons living with terminal illnesses and for their families, friends, and communities; for persons working to find cures for diseases.
For all those who seek peace in the world and for ourselves, that we may bring about God's Kingdom here on earth. For our enemies, and for those who wish us harm.
Praise God for those in every generation in whom Christ has been honored.
