Worship & Adult Formation

Join us for a Celtic Eucharist on Saturday, May 6 at 5 p.m. Music for the service will be led by members of Allelu! (Lisa Whitfield, director) and harpist Lelia Lattimore. It is a wonderful opportunity to invite friends and family members to to this quiet, contemplative service in this beautiful sacred space.

On Sunday, May 7 at 9 a.m. in the Trinity Room, members of our Vestry and Finance Team will share about our parish stewardship and financial health after the first quarter of the year. The parish is in good shape! This is part of our ongoing effort to demonstrate our value of transparency and openness around finances at St. James.

From Sunday, May 14 to June 4, St. James will be observing Mental Health Awareness Month with a new formation series called Caring Faithfully for Our Mental Health. Professionals from several areas of our community life will join us each week to discuss the importance of de-stigmatizing and discussing mental health and how issues affect different age groups, from youth to older adults.

Morning Prayer on Mondays will continue at 8:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary. Start your week off with a simple, spoken morning prayer service Mondays in the Sanctuary area of the Church. No sermon, no music, no livestream. Just prayer in the rhythm of the Daily Office.

Join us for our midweek healing Holy Eucharist at noon every Wednesday in the Chapel. This service lasts no longer than 45 minutes so anyone can attend, either on a lunch break or in the midst of running errands.

Gluten free wafers are available during communion for those with celiac disease or medical issues. You may request this gluten free option at communion from the chalice bearer.

Ministry & Fellowship

Join your parish family for a Crawfish Boil with all the fixin’s on Saturday, June 10 from 4-7 p.m. This is a time for church-wide fellowship with music, games and fun for the whole family! We’ll have Louisiana crawfish with potatoes and corn, salad, and the most delicious sides catered by Daddy D’s Soulfood Restaurant. Registration begins in just a few days! For more info, contact Laurie Parkerson at leparkerson@gmail.com.

Join the St. James Foyers and get to know your parish family! Foyers is a set of randomly chosen dinner groups of 6, 7, or 8 people that meet over the course of six months (or so) for delicious meals and sparkling conversation. Past participants will need to sign up again for the Spring Foyers groups as you are not automatically re-enrolled. If you had fun making new friends and enjoying delicious meals together, please consider signing up again and telling others to join you. For more info, email Laurie at leparkerson@gmail.com. Please sign up before May 10 by adding your name to the clipboard located in the Reception Area or clicking the button here.

Chair yoga offers the support of the chair for all participants and the use of the chair as a prop for those who want to stand for certain poses. Can You Do Dinner for Our Youth?

One way to continue to support Christoph and his ministry is by being involved! We need folks who will provide dinner for about 10-12 folks whenever we have EYC. Please stay and eat with our students. They are awesome. Teenagers eat most anything and right now we have no one with food allergies. Pizza, tacos, sandwiches, and a vegetarian option for Christoph! Contact David+ to sign up. Dates are: Sunday, May 7, Sunday, June 4, Wednesday, June 14, and Wednesday, June 28, all at 5:30 p.m.

Baptismal Sundays coming up include Pentecost Day, May 28, and the Bishop's Visitation on June 11. If you or a family member desires to be baptized, please let David+ know.

SAVE THE DATE for VBS! This year's Vacation Bible School theme is “Tree of Healing!” It will be held June 26-29 from 9 a.m. to noon at Trinity Presbyterian Church and is open to children entering Pre-K through 5th grade. Students finishing 6th grade and up are welcome to volunteer. It is led by Grace Lutheran, St. James Episcopal, and Trinity Presbyterian Churches. Registration will begin in May.
