The St. Joe Foundation hosted its quarterly Prenatal & Infant Care (PIC) Luncheon on August 18, focusing on quality childcare in Allen County. Speakers and panelists included Allie Sutherland, child development specialist with Bridge of Grace Compassionate Ministries Center; Erin Norton, the director of community outreach for Parkview Health’s Women and Children’s Services; Amber Targgart, CEO of Early Childhood Alliance; and Myla Rogers, quality improvement supervisor at Early Childhood Alliance.

Q: What inspires you about the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ and their Foundress Saint Katharina? Are there particular values or works that you find especially important?

The St. Joe Foundation kicked off Double Up Indiana in early 2021 after being awarded a $500,000 matching grant from the USDA. Double Up matches SNAP (food stamp) purchases of fruits and vegetables $1 for $1 up to $20 a day at participating farmers markets and groceries. To date, almost $100,000 in Double Up food bucks has been redeemed by low-income residents, which means...
