Catholic Relief Services (CRS) 2024 Rice Bowl Fundraiser

February 10/11 to April 6/7

CRS Rice Bowl is the Lenten program of Catholic Relief Services, the official international humanitarian agency of the Catholic community in the United States. Through CRS Rice Bowl, faith communities in every diocese throughout the United States put their faith into action through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Learn about how our sisters and brothers across the globe overcome hardships like hunger and malnutrition and how, through Lenten alms, we can make the world a better place for all.

St John Neumann is delighted to support the Rebuilding Catholic Community - 2024 Spring Speaker Series

Blankets 4 Babes Ministry

We will have a Fabric and Sewing materials Drive on February 17 to 25.

B4B needs new materials to continue making blanket bundles for mother-babies in need and Crisis pregnancy agencies. Items needed are flannel, kid-friendly cotton, batting, fleece, thread & yarn, or JOANN Fabrics gift cards. Only new fabrics, please. Thank you!

Please place donations in the box located in the Gathering Space.

If you have any questions, contact [email protected].

The Blankets 4 Babes and Pro-Life Ministries would like to thank the generous members of St. John Neumann. We received many useful items, including 3 Strollers, 150 clothing items/outfits, diapers, wipes, toys, and more. These items are all important for the growth and well-being of babies. Once again, thank you all for your support! We couldn’t do this without you!

Please pick up a donation envelope and additional information at the CCHD table and return it to the Lenten Alms Box in the gathering space. Please write checks to SJN with CCHD in the memo. Thank you!

*This ministry is one of the Lenten corporal works of mercy: Fasting, Prayer & Almsgiving.

The Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) is the domestic anti-poverty program of the U.S. Catholic Bishops, working to carry out the mission of Jesus Christ “... to bring glad tidings to the poor ... liberty to captives ... sight to the blind, and let the oppressed go free.” (Luke 4:18)

The belief that those directly affected by unjust systems and structures have the best insight into knowing how to change them is central to CCHD. CCHD works to break the cycle of poverty by helping low-income people participate in decisions that affect their lives, families, and communities. CCHD offers a hand-up, not a handout.

Restore: Continuing Our Lenten Journey

Join us as we continue our Lenten journey from week 3 through Holy Week with video presentations by Sr. Miriam James Heidland, SOLT, author of the Lenten Journal Restore.

Topics will include the roots of sin, almsgiving, forgiveness, and sacrifice. We trust that the light of Christ will bring us through the desert into the joy of new life. Social 8:30 a.m. Presentation 9 a.m. SJN Social Hall.

In 1921, Maria Kowaska left home and traveled to Krakow to become a nun. Various convents rejected her because she had only three years of schooling and had no money to purchase her habit and contribute to the convent. After a year of working, she was accepted to the Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy and took the name of Faustina. Life was not easy for Sr. Faustina–she endured ridicule by her fellow nuns. However, her spiritual life changed dramatically when our Lord Jesus Himself started appearing and speaking to her. He named her “His Secretary” and told her to write down everything. She continued to receive words from Our Lord that were recorded in her diary. Sister Faustina was diagnosed with “Consumption” (likely Tuberculosis) and for years steadily grew sicker while continuing her diary recording. Sister Faustina died in 1938.

Upon the election of Pope Saint John Paul II, the diary was presented to the Holy See and the Divine Mercy devotion were declared authentic and “in keeping with Church Teaching.” In 2000, Pope Saint John Paul II declared Sister Maria Faustina Kowalska a Saint and began strongly promoting the Divine Mercy message and devotion.

St. Faustina Kowalska, pray for us! Pope St. John Paul II, pray for us!
