Happy Black History Month! We are enjoying an informative and celebratory series of events. Thank you to the members of the Black History Committee chaired by Canon Earl Mounger.
Sunday, February 19, the Last Sunday after The Epiphany, we will enjoy music from the Black, Brown, Beige Suite composed by Duke Ellington. The excerpt is “Come Sunday”, to be presented by, our organist, Zach Neufeld’s jazz trio.
Everyone is invited to wear Afro-Centric on Sunday. (Here ae two shops that carry the clothing: Kutula by Africana, 4438 Slauson Avenue; and African Family Fashion, 4343 Crenshaw Blvd.)
Mardi Gras/Shrove Tuesday is on February 21 at 7pm. Wear a festive mask and enjoy New Orleans-style food. We’ll burn palms on the plaza in preparation for Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the penitential season of Lent.
Join us on February 22 for Ash Wednesday services. The Noon service is spoken and the 7pm service is sung. We will close the Triptych doors at the 7pm service.
On February 26, the first Sunday in Lent, we will have a guest presenter via Zoom during Christian Education following the 10am service. Our presenter is the Rev. Stacey Forte Dupre, the immediate past president of the H. Belfield Hannibal Chapter of the Union of Black Episcopalians (UBE-LA) What prompted the inception of the Union of Black Episcopalians in the Episcopal Church in the United States?
