Happy Easter! He is risen!!
I hope you had a wonderful and blessed celebration!
This Sunday, we will also be celebrating. One of the very best things we do as a church family is to help our young people grow up in the faith AND grow in faith. And for twelve of our young people, this Sunday will be the high point of their journey with Christ. Of course, it is not an end-point, it is a new beginning. They will be standing before the congregation, professing their faith openly, taking their baptismal vows for themselves (the ones their parents took for them when they were infants), taking the vows of membership, and becoming full, confirmed members of our church family.
Just a few weeks ago, the entire group participated in a weekend retreat at Camp Innabah. It was the culmination of their confirmation class experience. They spent the entire weekend summing up what they had learned. They had several special experiences together, made stoles for Confirmation Sunday, took a Confirmation test (ask them about it sometime!), prepared an essay about their faith and their beliefs, participated in lesson about the sacraments, received Holy Communion, and THEN they each spent 10-15 minutes being interviewed. I asked each one of them to tell me, in detail, why they wanted to be confirmed and whether they felt they were ready (and why). I want to share with you that we have a good and committed group of young people this year - I feel that they all have something wonderful to offer to our congregation, to the United Methodist Church, and to the world - in the name of Jesus Christ.
Please join us in celebrating this momentous occasion with our confirmation class at the 10:30 service this week, and please welcome them as full members of the church with open arms. A reception will follow in Fellowship Hall.

Where will the things St. John's UMW collects for Ingathering go?
United Meth
odist Neighborhood Services (UMNS) serves the needs of the poor and the marginalized inner city Philadelphia people, especially women, children and the youth. The Mission is to meet immediate personal needs to produce a positive impact on the whole community. This is accomplished by involving community members in making decisions and by empowering individuals to become self-sufficient. UMNS provides direct services, counseling and cooperates with other Human Service Agencies. The UMNS is located in Janes Memorial UMC's Thelma Nichols building in the Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia. Much of its income comes from the United Methodist Women and the United Methodist Churches of the Eastern PA Annual Conference.
